There has been an appalling drought of nautical music on this peninsula. After a successful workshop (with the help of Chris Kastle and others), I am trying to get a regular sing started here before I flee.

They will be in Gainesville, at The Midnight on South Main St., 8–10 pm on the third Wednesday of the month.

As is typical, chanteys, forebitters, or any song that can be remotely connected with water is welcome.

For those of you who use Facebook, there is an event posted.

I didn't take any photos, ChanteyLass, but others did (and maybe video?)… if they get posted, they will probably show up on the Facebook page since that's how the kids roll these days.

It went swimmingly, though: probably twenty folks there for the sing, maybe more, and about ten who were coaxed into leading at least one song. Chris Kastle was, unsurprisingly, a critical co-anchor, but local Irish bar band Scuttered the Bruce contributed a few strong songs, and singers from the local Irish seísiún dropped a few lovely ballads. Several other local musicians were strong chorus members, and a few random punters and curious parties joined in. I had meant to keep notes and post them here, but of course that didn't happen.

Sounds like this was a great start. When will the next one be? Not that I'll be able to come to it from Rhode Island but it's never too soon to let people know!

Next one is Wednesday 19 June; new thread for that. These will be on the third Wednesdays, generally.
