The Sun is very close to the west end of Beverley Minster which is very difficult to miss. Standing at the door of the Sun turn left for Hodgsons, beyond the level crossing. For the Tiger turn right and go down Minster Moorgate which runs parallel to the Minster and then turn left when that street ends.

Beverley Minster is well worth a look if you are passing. Hope you enjoy your visit.

Has a anyone heard from Ossonflags?

Is he doing anything at the festival this year?

I'm sure I heard somewhere that he was running some sessions!

Have a good one.

I'm not sure, Paul. He's been a bit low key so far. Just follow the sounds of Dicey Riley and you may find him. I heard it from Jersey.

Hope for better advertising of the Fringe events at the festival itself next year. Did the distance from the main site harm it do you think?

Enjoyed the McGarry Nelson set at Minster Bar (what we caught of it)however it was not that well signposted, and not being familiar with the racecouse I asked a steward who just vaguely said 'it's over there'. Over where exactly?? Anyway we found it but if she'd just said 'its near the wooden horse' we'd have found it sooner!

I don't think the Fringe was harmed being further away from the main site, esp as there was a shuttle bus on. I actually preferred the new site, it's got more of a 'festival feel'. I never liked the leisure centre as a venue.

Had a great night at the friday sessions all seamed to be going well did not get to the tiger though just to the sun and hodgesons plenty of good tunes and songs seemed to be plenty of people there...

I got across on Sunday afternoon and went to the Sun and Hodgsons. Although enjoyable, I would say that both venues were much quieter than during previous festivals.

Don't know if its true but someone in The Sun told me that they were charging for the shuttle bus. If true, that could have been off-putting for some.

We got to the Tiger, Sun and Oddfellows on Saturday all well attended and good atmosphere, very busy. Saw some American old-time musicians and dancers in the Angel too, which was a very nice surprise..anyone know who these folks were? Well done to the organisers.

Yeah I suppose the shuttle bus could have been free but I was just glad it was there. There's also the usual X46 bus which goes from the same stop into the town, which I wasn't aware of previously.

Thanks to all who came to our FRINGE festival all 3 pubs well attended and thanks to all who ran the sessions Jim,Chris,Murf,Les,Maggie,Gordon,Martin,Chris,Brian,And John.. lets do it again next year ..The new festival site seems to work ok its bit further out of Beverley town but people were using the buses so that got them in to town and there was some sessions on festival site run by Mick and Brian who did great job ...keep music live ..Derek

I thought the £1 for the shuttle was fine to be honest, what's a quid these days? If anything though they could have been a little more frequent than they were. One an hour on a Saturday afternoon seems nowhere near enough to me and the walk from town to the racecourse is not a two minute job by any means, so a few more buses might be a good idea next year.

I also preferred the new venue, and was similarly not really a big fan of the leisure centre, I'd echo Jane of 'Ull's comments entirely - definitely more "festivally".

The Minster Bar signposting was daft though and if we hadn't been specifically looking for it I doubt we would have walked down there to the end of the course where it was hiding.

The fringe venues seemed as busy as ever on Saturday, perhaps more so than last year by my reckoning.

Tiger, Sun and Oddies were all highly enjoyable. We didn't make it to Hodgsons this year. We didn't do any of the ticketed festival events this year either.

On the whole it was a cracking visit on Saturday and just a shame we couldn't really make it back on Sunday for more of the same.

Nick.
(Mister Jane Of 'Ull)

Yeah, crappy Sunday public transport prevented us from returning to the festival yesterday. We will have a car next year though so will see more of the festival :)

Nice to hear everyone again at the 'Fringe'. Not as busy as in previous years but it was nice to get into the pubs and be heard. Its a long way out of town to the Festival and the camping but with a bit of nurturing I'm sure the 'Fringe' will survive. If you would like us to help out with sessions next time please get in touch at www.alteregocb.net or olga.j18@btinternet.com. For those who only want to do the fringe who are members of the Camping and Caravanning Club there has been for years and will certainly be there next year a 'members only' rally at Willow Lane. There is also a 5 van site up there but if you want to use it you will need to book early as it is only a 5 van site! Hope to see you all next year if we don't catch up with you somewhere before then.

Sunday Survivors in Hodgsons seemed quieter but Friday evening was as busy as ever. Also a great Saturday in Oddfellows, which we had to leave slightly early to get the last bus. Thanks to everyone who came to these sessions and especially the new friends we made.

I read on several sites that there was a piano available at one of the three pubs but unfortunately after checking them all, (not drinking, honest!) I was eventually told that there 'used to be one in the Sun Inn but not longer was'...shame :-(

I never did find the minster bar and i was there for 3 days. i must be daft but signposting on flipchart paper and marker was not very durable in a rainstorm

There's definitely a piano in the Sun - I was sitting next to it and someone was playing it on Friday night!

If the festival organisers considered the fringe to be a part of the festival {which they don't}they would have put signs up for the Minster Bar, but they didn't. Instead Mick and Brian had to do it themselves on the spur of the moment.Another indication of their attitude towards the fringe was the buses. They made several stops {including outside the Tiger}on the way up to the racecourse but instead of taking the same route back returned directly to the bus station.
Anyhow enough negativity. I had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well done to all those who made it happen.
