Subject: Obit: George Beverly Shea - April 2013 From: Wesley S Date: 18 Apr 13 - 07:58 PM I saw this in the paper this morning. I thought he died years ago. NY Times Obit George Beverly Shea, who escaped a life of toil in an insurance office to become a Grammy-winning gospel singer and a longtime associate of the Rev. Billy Graham, appearing before an estimated 200 million people at Graham revival meetings worldwide, died on Tuesday in Asheville, N.C. He was 104. |
Subject: RE: Obit: George Beverly Shea - April 2013 From: meself Date: 18 Apr 13 - 08:46 PM I am sorry to say that the death of this tremendously-successful Canadian singer has been largely neglected by the Canadian news media, from what I've seen and heard. He was a great singer. |

Subject: RE: Obit: George Beverly Shea - April 2013 From: Ron Davies Date: 18 Apr 13 - 10:31 PM "still singing as he embarked on his second century" Excellent. Now there's the ultimate role model, in my opinion. |
Subject: RE: Obit: George Beverly Shea - April 2013 From: Little Robyn Date: 19 Apr 13 - 06:13 PM Back in 1959 the Billy Graham Crusade came to NZ and we went. It was an amazing experience for a kid and I loved hearing a wonderful singer performing How great Thou art 104 years! What a life! RIP Bev. Sing for the angels. Robyn |
Subject: RE: Obit: George Beverly Shea - April 2013 From: Genie Date: 20 Apr 13 - 08:01 PM I had learned, over a year ago, that George Beverly Shea was still alive at 103, and I knew he had celebrated his 104th birthday this past February. I know he continued singing in concerts about a decade or so ago. Glad to know he never really stopped singing. "Bev" Shea was probably my mom and dad's favorite singer, and I loved his deep baritone voice and the soul he put into his songs. I did not know until very recently that he was also a songwriter and co-wrote "I'd Rather Have Jesus" among other songs. When he had his 104th birthday this past Feb., I began to wonder just how long he could keep going. I'm glad to know he lived such a long and, apparently, fulfilling life. The heavenly choir has just gained a wonderful new voice. |
