My old friend, Dave McDonald died at 7 am today. I just thought of a song...now he's on the other side standing on God's golden shore, singing country music for the Lord. :-(

I had half a dozen right wing friends with whom I used to cross swords, but, slowly, they are leaving. I'm down to one, and he's in his 90s.

There will be no funeral, so, I'm raising a glass in his honor. I don't know what's on the other side, no one does, but we can hope.

The veil that hides the future is woven by the hand of mercy.

He was 68, had an 18 year battle with prostate cancer. He lived in Skowhegan Maine, was a fan of country music; He was a gun nut, dead set against any more gun laws.
He worked as a Deputy Sheriff in Miami, had no black friends, thought it was a waste of time to educate women.
As I write this I have to wonder what we had in common, and all I can think of is, we are both cement heads who love to debate.

Yet, he would give you the shirt off his back if you really needed it.

Shame he dropped out so young, no? One wonders if his chronic belligerence toward others might have had anything to do with his early demise? He was lucky to have you as a friend, Skipper, as am I and all of us.

I firmly believe that attitude plays a major role in longevity. Negative energy can make you ill, and positive energy can help you stay healthy. Dave was a negative guy.I still don't know why I liked him.Only two men ever talked to me as he did and walked away with his nose in its original position.

Part of being a liberal is the ability to allow others to have a different mindset.
