I don't think I ever heard this song before, but somehow it brings back memories of love beads and earth shoes and a time when it didn't matter whether songs rhymed or not.

POISON APPLE LADY
As sung by Andy Roberts on "Urban Cowboy"

This is a song about a night at a house by a river.
I was taken there by Danny and Sandy and Karen who I'd only just met.
Nobody lived there then; maybe it's empty still.
But I can't forget the hummin' of the crickets and I probably never will.

We parked the car that I thought was too shot to make it,
And we all walked down to the house by a river that somebody just forgot.
I only had on my sandals and my feet were wet with dew,
But I stuck by your side like a mussel to a stone 'cause I wanted to be with you.

Karen, lady dark eyes, I dig you.
Poison apple lady, I dig you.
How've you been, child? See you soon.

Stumblin' 'cross the rotten floors in the dark was quite a game.
"I think that's mine—no, I'm sorry, it's yours; in the dark they're all the same."
I wanted you so badly, and feelin' somethin' wrong,
I planned with Danny to see you... and began to write this song."

It was much later on that you dared to tell me about him,
So I didn't know a thing about your old man as we waited for the sun.
I really had a good time, and everyone else did too,
But you know in your heart that the house by a river means more to me and you.

Karen, lady dark eyes, I dig you.
Poison apple lady, I want you.
How've you been, child? See you soon.
How've you been, child? See you soon.
