Subject: Lyr Add: MARY WAS A THREE-BADGE WREN From: wildlone Date: 06 Nov 99 - 01:29 PM This Song is about a Wren or A female member of the Royal Navy. Written by Ruth Cooper while in Portsmouth. Tune: Yankee Doodle. Mary was a three-badge Wren, Her hair was fair and curly. She joined the Wrens in 1910, Just thirty years to early. Though Mary has her bit of fun, She never gets detention. Her demob. group is number one, She well deserves her pension. Mary is a pusser lass, She wears her 'black-out' undies. As a glamour girl she wished to pass, So she changed them Easter Sundays. She knew her KR's and AI's, At them she'd never falter. Until she met a swell GI, Who led her to the altar. Though she makes love to Bo'sun's Mates, They are the Navy's he-men. The ones she most appreciates Are able-bodied seamen. So learn by Mary's awful fate, You Wrens who flirt a trifle. You may end up a Gunner's mate And have to clean his rifle. Glossary Three-Badge-Three good conduct stripes, you would get them after 13 years of 'undetected crime'. Pusser-Anything pusser would be Naval issue. KR's-Kings Regulations, the rules. GI-Gunnery Instructor. In the Navy you get Issues and Stores, hence "you can't have it! If we had to give it out it would be called issues". |
