Subject: The Little Vagabond ( William Blake ) From: GUEST Date: 28 Apr 13 - 06:03 PM Songs of Experience has been tackled by several folk artists over the years, but I've yet to hear a version of 'The Little Vagabond' that betters this one: http://grendelssleep.bandcamp.com/track/the-little-vagabond Does anyone know of any other good versions of Blake's poems? |
Subject: RE: The Little Vagabond ( William Blake ) From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 May 13 - 10:29 AM The Fugs did arrangements of AH, SUNFLOWER, WEARY OF TIME; AUGURIES OF INNOCENCE, and HOW SWEET I ROAM'D FROM FIELD TO FIELD. The following albums seem (by their song titles) to consist entirely of Blake poems set to music: Greg Brown, "Songs of Innocence and of Experience" Jude Cowan, "Lamb & Tyger" Billy Blake and the Vagabonds, "Billy Blake and the Vagabonds." Finn Coren, "Spring: The Appendix – The Blake Project" All these can be heard on Spotify. If you search there for some of his titles, I think you'll find more. I haven't listened to all of these, so I can't testify that they're "good"--but I remember being fascinated by The Fugs way back when I was a college student, because they were so far outside the mainstream. |
