Subject: June Tabor on BBC Radio 4 From: GUEST, topsie Date: 01 May 13 - 03:05 PM I'm surprised nobody seems to have mentioned that June Tabor was on Radio 4 this morning. I expect the programme will be available for a week as a 'Listen again', and a shortened version will be on this evening between 9.30 and 10 pm UK time. With luck it will include the bit with her in it. |
Subject: RE: June Tabor on BBC Radio 4 From: YorkshireYankee Date: 01 May 13 - 08:00 PM Thanks for the "heads up", Topsie! It was Midweek. You can Listen Again here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01s4q5j. The main conversation with June starts at ~33 min 20 sec in; starting off (after an intro by Libby Purvis) with June singing "The Reaper" solo & a capella... absolutely stunning. Here's the Midweek blurb about June: "June Tabor is widely recognised as one of Britain's leading folk singers. Her style straddles folk and jazz and she often sings unaccompanied. At last year's Radio 2 Folk Awards she won Singer of the Year and, with the Oysterband, she also picked up best group and best album. Her latest band and album - both called Quercus - feature Iain Bellamy on saxophone and Huw Warren on piano. Quercus is released on ECM records and the band are performing at the Salisbury Festival." Enjoy! |
Subject: RE: June Tabor on BBC Radio 4 From: May Queen Date: 02 May 13 - 06:02 AM Thanks for that Topsie...being a Radio 6 listener I missed that. I'll listen on catch up later. June is a new discovery for me...(all folk music is to be fair!)but I love her deep voice which is similar to mine. I am hoping to learn some of her songs for my folk club as i think I will be able to give them a good shot. |
Subject: RE: June Tabor on BBC Radio 4 From: GUEST,SRD Date: 02 May 13 - 04:32 PM I hope Aunty apologises for mis-spelling Iain Ballamy's name. We've got tickets for Quercus' gig in Salisbury, I suspect it won't be to the taste of folk 'purists'. |
