Access is a weekly magazine distributed each weekend with our local newspaper (The Montgomery County [MD] Journal), Each week, they mention the best web sites for eight or ten categories. This week (dated November 7, 1999), they covered song lyrics. This outstanding lyrics database of blues and traditional folk songs boasts a search engine and resources to help lyric-searchers find background material. The Blues Museum contains photographs and articles on such legends as Leadbelly and Mississippi John Hurt. For answers to more obscure questions, visit the Forum, where adults can follow the eclectic topic threads that usually relate to music. The Mudcat Café for Kids explains how to make simple instruments like Dooley sticks and gourd rattlers. Seems the Publishers/Idiot Crooks Who Say They Represent Them would snap to the fact that spreading the word about music this way actually improves life all the way 'round -- for musicians, composers and publishers and appreciators alike.

I hate to say I have been taking for granted the high quality of this site. I have been to many other music sites, over the years, and I spend my professional 'day job' consulting to the Internet or Web-based business community - and I know that Mudcat is not only a site with excellent content (ie., from a musician stand-point) but it is an excellent example of how a Website should work. It is well organized, well maintained (all the links work), very simple to navigate, provides a rich variety of functions through a simple interface.

As a Mudcat user, I enjoy the professional presentation and the valuable info it contains. I also very much enjoy the great community of people here at the Mudcat!

Congratualtions to Mudcat for these 'kudos' - they are well deserved!

Mudcat is by far the cleanest (in a technical sense), most user friendly forum site on the Web (and I scan lots). You only have to check out various guitar sites (I name no names) or other hobby sites to show that Max has worked long and hard to make this seamless. Taking it for granted is the ultimate accolade. That is even before we talk about the content, and before we talk about the fine people here. It is a treasure gang. yours, Peter T.

So what does this mean? I have to watch my language? Beebs removes the pictures of poor little Cleigh, the ass-blown possum? The Tavern shuts down til the "notoriety" passes? We run 100:1 threads of music to bullshit? (Yeah, I know....)

Or maybe it just means that somebody else thinks it a great place and we'll get some more young blood as we have been doing so well at lately.
