Subject: Tune Req: O'Brien Butler's work From: GUEST,JTT Date: 07 May 13 - 02:16 PM Thomas O'Brien Butler was the great hope of Irish classical music in the early years of the 20th century. He wrote one opera, Muirgheis, in Irish and English; he was also working, or thinking of working, on a cycle of three operas with Thomas MacDonagh. He was one of the victims of the Lusitania, torpedoed on this date in 1914 and sunk with the loss of almost 1,200 souls. Has anyone any links to Muirgheis, or to any of his music? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: O'Brien Butler's work From: MartinRyan Date: 07 May 13 - 02:26 PM Must say I'd never heard of him. If you put "O'Brien Butler" into the main catalogue index of the Irish Traditional Music Archive, you'll find mention of some of his work. Click here. Regards |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: O'Brien Butler's work From: GUEST,JTT Date: 08 May 13 - 04:20 PM Went in there today (on another errand - listening to a programme by Donagh MacDonagh) and asked; it's only sheet music they have, which is no good to me as I'm immusicarate. |
