Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Charley Noble Date: 20 May 13 - 09:45 PM Linn- Wow! You nailed them all. It really was a nice session and it was great to have some new folks attending and singing. Next month, I believe, the session is dedicated to Barry Finn. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 19 May 13 - 06:11 PM I'm late, I'm late... (so what else is new?) Charley/Charlie has posted photos from yesterday's session at Facebook. I'll add my usual contribution here as soon as I have a moment to spare. The crew was: Tom (Curmudgeon) and me (Bat Goddess), Don & Cathy Hale, Alan Eaton, Pete Hale (both of whom couldn't stay long), Bill Perry (who finally connected with Charley), Steve from Gloucester and his wife, Charlie Ipcar (Charley Noble), Dianne Lavoie, Susan Young, Kelly from Boston and her friend Andrew from California, Marty Stock (at long last!), Justine Donovan and Steve Smith. There were a couple other new faces who sat and listened during most or all of the session, but I was way too sleepy to attempt introducing myself and hearing how they found out about us. I was struggling on a major sleep deficit. After getting to bed very late Friday night, I awoke Saturday morning at four...and couldn't get back to sleep. Just as I finally dozed off, Rufus chased Sabine loudly into the bedroom and bit her in the butt so she yowled and made a general feline commotion. Then I must have fallen back to sleep, but had vivid dreams that I was lying there unable to fall back to sleep. Sigh. I managed to stay awake enough to drive Tom and myself safely home. Linn |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 18 May 13 - 09:02 AM Obit for Janie And here is an article that ran for Valentine's Day this year -- Bruce and Janie Bruce came to the session for awhile last night. Linn |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Charley Noble Date: 16 May 13 - 08:03 PM I will certainly miss Janie as well. This will be the last Press Room sea music session before the Mystic Sea Music Festival. I understand Mudhook will be featured this year. The date is June 6-9. If you really love this kind of music Mystic is where you can hear hundreds of people joining in on the choruses. I'll be there as a Guest Performer singing with Jon Campbell and Mary Garvey in their Fisheries Workshop. I'm also looking forward to hearing Danny Spooner from Australia sing again. Cheerily, Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: GUEST,Paul Schurr Date: 16 May 13 - 01:04 PM Janie was a happy, smiling person with a beautiful personality. We were just getting to know her better and saw her as part of our extended musical family. Our sympathies to Bruce and all who were touched by Janie. I wonder if June would be a good time for a memorial sing? We remember Barry on the third Saturday and sing in his honor. The singing family needs to gather to honor another fallen member. |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: SINSULL Date: 16 May 13 - 12:02 PM Janie McIntyre was a treasure. Always a smile. Always generous and fun. How sad to see her go. RIP, beautiful lady. Mary |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 15 May 13 - 09:40 PM We heard earlier today, of course, and for the benefit of anyone checking here who hasn't heard, Bruce MacIntyre's wife Janie passed away this morning. Music has sustained both of them through these difficult times and Bruce has said he will be at Friday's weekly trad session. I don't know that he can be expected to come on Saturday, but you never know... Though neither a singer nor musician, Janie was a sustaining friend and encourager of younger talent...and the rest of us, too. Linn |
Subject: RE: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Charley Noble Date: 15 May 13 - 09:24 PM Linn- I plan to be there. Check the Press Room Facebook Forum for sad news... Charley Noble |
Subject: May Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 15 May 13 - 07:20 PM Sorry, it's been a fairly intense couple weeks and Tom just reminded me I need to post this month's shanty sing. Our monthly shanty, forebitter, and ballad song session will be happening this Saturday, May 18th, at The Press Room on Daniel St. in Portsmouth, NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. Daniel Street and the sidewalk have been torn up with construction for the past couple weekends. Friday I will post a current conditions update. It's made it a bit complicated for Tom to get from the car into The Press Room (and back) but he's been accomplishing it. But it may make parking on Daniel Street problematic. But it's doable and we hope to see you there! Linn |
