Subject: George Lewis on Jazz 625 From: GUEST,Fred McCormick Date: 22 May 13 - 09:28 AM Just before I forget again, BBC 4 is screening an archive edition from 1965, of Jazz 625. This Friday 24th May at 22-00. The programme shows a performance by Acker Bilk's Paramount Jazz Band and Beryl Bryden but, for me at any rate, the real attraction is the guest appearance of the legendary New Orleans clarinettist, George Lewis. Immediately preceding Jazz 625, is something called Trad Jazz Britannia. According to information received this is a completely new programme with previously-unseen interviews with Humphrey Lyttelton and George Melly. I have a feeling this is actually a repeat episode from a series on British jazz which was broadcast a few years ago. Whatever, I doubt if it will do much in the way of breaking new ground, but should be worth watching for footage of the Beaulieu jazz festival - and riot! |
