It's not that I don't appreciate bawdy lyrics, but I'm doing a presentation on rounds (including catches) at a family venue. Does anyone know of a catch which is only SLIGHTLY bawdy? If so, what's it called and where can I find the music? And now it's time to pet my unicorn and enter a pleasant alternative universe where musicians get paid more than athletes.

Tim Hart and Maddy Prior performed ADAM CATCHED EVE on their albums "Summer Solstice" (1971) and "Heydays" (2003):

"Adam catched Eve by the furbelow...."

It sounds dirty if you don't know what a furbelow is.

The Merry Wives of Windsor also perform it on their album "Here's to the Men" (2005).

You can hear both versions on Spotify.

There's playlist of some Purcell catches on youtube: Catches. (Deller Consort and Merry Companions). The music is displayed on screen.

You'll have to judge if they're too bawdy or not.

There are also some printed at CPDL: 10 Purcell Catches (click the small pdf icon for pdf of the scores)

Also at ISMLP: The Catch Club or Merry Companions

There's also a book of the complete Purcell catches for about £10.

Mick
