Thanks for the encouragement, Mike. This time it worked, without me unzipping it or anything. The pianist's name, as given on the site is different, too. In fact, the three time I've visited the site, the pianist's name has been different. I've never seen that before.

In the opera, that piece has three parts, like a round. It's quite lovely. YouTube has quite a few stand-alone versions of it, if you would like to hear it. However, the singers in the stand-alone versins aren't as downright sexy as the Dr. Falke of the Covent Garden version.

Wikipedia provides a ms for it, but it's awful complicated. Thanks again.

The file downloads as a zip file with a single midi in it. You should be able to right-click the zip file (potstrfle11.mid.zip) and extract/unzip the file. It extracts to potstrfle11.mid.

If you have any problem pm me an email address (or do it via joe, who has a public email address) and I'll forward you the midi.

Recently I watched a video of the Covent Garden OPera company doing Johann Strauss's die Fledermaus. I enjoyed it, even if I did have to break up my viewing. 3:16:52 is a lot of opera!

I fell in love with a piece called "Brother mine and Sister mine," and looked for a MIDI of it. I found one - almost. This site:

claims to have it, but it's compressed. I saved it, but my computer doesn't know what to do with it. Noteworthy doesn't recognize it, and Windows says 'nothing found' when I try to move it.

Is there a way I can make that into a MIDI file that I can manage with Noteworthy Composer? My OS is Windows XP, service pac 3.

The opera is fun to watch, especially if you read the synopsis first. The version I watched was in English with English subtitles. (Yes, opera values tone, ornamentation and range over diction. Get over it.) It has beautiful ballet and good jokes, and a guest appearance by Joan Sutherland, Marilyn Horne and Luciano Pavarotti smack dab in the middle of it.

I've learned to search youtube for "die Fledermaus English" or "...English subtitles." The first time I tried, I listened to the overture (6 mins) and found it was in German with Japanese subtitles. My next try was in German with Dutch subtitles. Finally I got it right.
