The fifth string is a C below the G string which gives the fiddle the range of a viola as well as its normal range.

In order to fund a new viola, I'm selling my Tim Philips 5 string violin. It's a beautiful, sweet sounding instrument and comes complete with case and built in sky in bow pick up. Tims instruments now sell for £2750 but I'm willing to sell for £2500. Happy to post photos etc
