Subject: The Shocking Miss Emerald From: Dave the Gnome Date: 06 Jun 13 - 09:23 AM Just listening to this wonderful album by Caro Emerald. Not Folk - Unless someone wants to start that old argument again :-) Probably 'swing' is the closest, although I don't really like such labels. Just good music as far as I am concerned. Any other fans? Don't know her? Look it up. Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: The Shocking Miss Emerald From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 06 Jun 13 - 09:44 AM Dave - I caught her on Jools Holland and really liked her. If anyone wants to check her out, there's quite a bit on youtube - a version of Mad About The Boy that I really like (though I'm less convinced by her version of Love Is A Losing Game). Mick |

Subject: RE: The Shocking Miss Emerald From: GUEST Date: 07 Jun 13 - 05:03 AM Interesting how thirties songs and jazz standards are becoming more widespread in folk clubs. I suppose it is down to the quality of the lyrics and the arrangement of the tunes as well as the nostalgia of the ageing folk club audiences. i think the burgeoning ukelele groups have given this a boost, and often include such songs. |
Subject: RE: The Shocking Miss Emerald From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 07 Jun 13 - 05:52 AM For UK viewers, I just noticed in the radio times she was on Jools Holland's Later... on Tuesday and it's being repeated tonight BBC2, 11:05pm. According to RT she's performing numbers from The Shocking Miss Emerald. Mick |

Subject: RE: The Shocking Miss Emerald From: Dave the Gnome Date: 09 Jun 13 - 06:39 AM Couldn't record it as something else was recording at the time - Stupid Sky box! Managed to see a couple of songs and she is indeed a stunning performer as well as singer. Deserves to do well. Cheers DtG |
