I've been enjoying the five-part crime series, 'The Fall' on BBC2, but it took the elderly Martin-manipulator Doc Cox, better but erroneously known as Ivor Biggun, to point out something of a pattern in the cast of characters.

The senior police-persons are Stella Gibson and Jim Burns, and the names of other characters include Breedlove, Eastwood, Reed Smith, Olson, Ned Callan, Rossmeisl, McElroy, McCurdy, McSwain, Angella, Morgan Monroe, Martin, Nash, Jarret, Dean, McInturff, Goodall, O'Brien and James Tyler. Taking into consideration that the murderer, P. Spector, is sought by the police Operation Musicman, we may perhaps suppose that the writer, Allan Cubitt, is hankering after a different career......

Of course, they're looking for a serial of-Fender......And as it's set in Northern Ireland, can we expect a villainous Tak O'Meany, skilled at taking on the appearance of others?

its funny the way 'the troubles' have become a legendary period in history. Rather like Isherwood's Berlin.

At the time it seemed just bloody awful - totally devoid of grandeur and history.

I thought the most shocking moment was when the corrupt detective shot himself in the interview room. That pistol was a loud 'un.
