On his Mother Earth album Tom Chapin has a great Thanksgiving song. Unfortunately, I don't have the recording any more, can't find it in time for Wednesday when I'd really like it, and it's not at his web page. Anyone care to share, so I can teach it to the kiddies? Thanks!
Allison

Here's the lyrics, Allison. I have all the Tom Chapin recordings.
Anything to help a fellow special area teacher!

Thanksgiving Day
(Tom Chapin & John Forster)

When we were farmers, we hauled in the harvest
And founded Thanksgiving Day.
With food in the shed for the winter ahead
We would gather together to say--

Chorus:
Thanks for our health
Thanks for our hearth
And the bounty that grows from the ground.
With our loved ones near
We bless the year
That's brought us safely 'round.

Now we are shoppers. We drive to the market.
The farm seems a light year away.
Still, every November, we pause to remember
That time-honored, old-fashioned day.
Chorus

Everything changes, yes, even Thanksgiving.
Let's rededicate this old day
to helping the hungry, the poor and the homeless
So all may be able to say--
Chorus
and repeat

With our loved ones near
We bless the year
That's brought us safely 'round.

Funny that this thread would come to the top right now. I heard Tom yesterday, in a fundraiser concert for Catskill victims of Hurricane Irene. He sang that song! Roy Book Binder, Priscilla Herdman & Max Cohen (of Groovemama, etc.), Tom Chapin & Michael Mark gave us a wonderful 3 hour concert in a church sanctuary, up-close & personal. It was great!!! Tom & Michael have been performing together for 30 years. The ease & fun of that shared experience showed in their performance. I had never heard Roy before, but he is, obviously, a master of his instrument. Duane was tickled pink to see him! Priscilla sounded wonderful, as always, & Max accompanies her marvelously. The organizers of the concert sure picked a nice variety of great performers!
