I must say it sounds excellent in the content of Morris Dance and was a real ear-cathcher, if there is such a phrase!

My late friend, John Snelson (piedpiper on here, rest his soul) was a wizard with anything you blow down from tin whistle to full highland pipes. He often used to play Bombard (and occasionally the war pipes) with blues band "Right band, wrong planet". It was very entertaining but took a bit of getting used too :-)

Looking forward to seeing Powderkeg again sometime so I can say hello.

Hi Dave and Steve.
Agree about Boojum; I saw them at Tredegar about three years ago, and thought they were excellent.
Two Step are Jean Smith and Ian Craigs, who will be back in Skipton soon - 13th and 14th July to be precise - for Clogfest. Free public clog dance displays between 10.30am and 4.00pm at the Canal Basin, the Castle, the Town Hall, Craven Court and Victoria Square on Saturday and at the Castle on Sunday. As usual, around 20 teams involved, including us (Seven Stars), Lancashire Wallopers, Camden Clog, Stony Steppers, Duke's Dandy etc. Check the website for full details. And Skipton is a lovely place!

Glad you enjoyed the day DtG. The Powderkegs were formed after a workshop lead by FlagCrackers 12 years ago, so it was wonderful to go along and help them celebrate their 25th birthday.

And the rain held off all day! It was still raining as we were having a cup of coffee before starting the day, it stayed dry all day, and then literally as people were saying their farewells and dispersing it started to drizzle again.

Boojum are good aren't they. By a quirk of of the programming we were scheduled with them all day, they were really good fun and easily bore repeated watching - it was a real shame that their barker went down with cramp on their stepping display dance ...

Hooray - Had another thought to find Boojum - and here they are. The chap in photo 5 was the poor man who got cramp when clog stepping with one of the ladies as 'Twostep' and made a very pithy comment in his announcing - Rapper sword is the only thing left of the North-East mining industry!

I was lucky enough to witness the Flagcrackers of Craven 25th Anniversary celebrated by a day of Dance on Skipton today. I got to the canal basin in time for the grand finale and saw a dozen or so dances of superb quality from a diverse number of teams and individuals. It would be unfair to single any out as better than the others as they were all superb in their own right but, in terms of being memorable the 400 roses were remarkable. I can honestly say I have never seen belly dance meet Morris before and the ladies performing were so obviously enjoying themselves it made it all the more enjoyable for us watchers.

There were the Flagcrackers themselves along with Ebor Morris, Flash Company, Boojum, who I cannot find a link for (Sorry :-( ) who also formed the talented clog dancers, Twostep - going down to one after a severe bout of cramp - ouch!

Buttercross Belles and Persephone represented the North West tradition admirably while Powderkegs provided a good rival for the Flagcrackers border style. Pateley Longsword did an eight person longsword set which I can only describe as spectacular. There were a coupel of individual dancers who should be mentioned but, alas, I do not know their names - but they know who they are :-)

All in all - A splendid day and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. One point I must make as well is that there were far more ladies dancing than men. One in the eye for the old guard and long may it remain so!
