Irish Song on Audi commercial?

Here is a note I got from one of the artists on the above web page where I found the lyrics - it is in response to my query about from whence the song came and if there are more lyrics to it.

I first heard H-O Abha-Inn on a CD called Celtic Cradle by Jill Rogoff. It's available through Alcazar Records and I'd highly recommend it. Normally we (Jill and I) both loop it to draw it out a bit (first 4 lines, 2 lines, first 4 lines again, the 2 lines and the first 4 one last time) but as far as I know there aren't any additional lyrics. Noirin ni Riain also sings it as part of a lullaby set on her recording Celtic Soul. It sounds completely different. My version, recorded on Brigit's Well, is naturally my favorite! Am I the only one struck by the fact that German car builders are using Irish songs to plug their car? Reminds me that the official car of the United States ski team was a Subaru.

you're welcome,all... I had a feeling that bit of information would come in handy some day, so I am glad I remembered where I saw it...

reminds me of the days way back when: remember? When the "Harry's Game" theme from Clannad was used in a Volkswagen commercial and the public went mad! Apparently people were contacting the company trying to find out what that music, perfect accompaniment to autumn leaves blowing slow-motion around a car, was...and it certainly made Clannad a household name...not long after Enya hit the pop charts with Watermark... peg

Aha. Saw the commercial again last night 1/26/2000 on UPN channel 44 in San Francisco at 9:30 p.m. "Take Every Detour" - the Audi A6 Avant. I'm off to see if I can find what that song is now.

thanks again, guys - i looked at adcritic the other day - my search engine offered it as the first site to see commercials. and i bookmarked it. none of the 5 audi commercials on it matched. what i heard did not sound like Loreena, Enya, etc. This was one of the reasons i sat up and listened - it did not sound like anyone i have heard before.

Everywhere I go on Audi sites, they seem to be showcasing the A2 model.
I'm a totat eejit when it comes to the latest in the car market, furthermore, I live in Norway, and the ad hasn't appeares on our channels yet, as far as I have noticed anyway.

yes, i had a wry thought or 2 when i saw that e-mail. usually such thoughts become tempered with, o, well, give 'em some time to learn the ropes... or some such soothing sentiment... like in the cartoons when the little horned fella is on one shoulder and the halo'd fella is on the other shoulder...

What do these highly paid marketing get paid for in the first place?
Like I mean, how many new models are Audi launching in America this year?
How many of them have adverts have Enya or Máire, or Tríona singing in them, for God's sake?

I would have thought they would have been delighted that their marketing ploy worked perfectly: namely that they grabbed the attention at peak veiwing time of a potential customer.

I would write back to them and promise them you will buy one, if only they would get up off their asses and do what waht they're paid to!

Thanks, you guys. I saw the commercial in San Francisco, it was either late afternoon or evening on Sunday, November 7. I only had the presence of mind to note that it was an Audi commercial (guess I was too bewitched with the music and straining to hear the lyrics...). I had never seen this commercial before; it is brand new as far as I know. I wrote to Audi U.S. via e-mail and the person who e-mailed back asked me for more specifics, like what model of Audi. ARRGGHH. I have not seen the commercial since then, boo hoo. That's all the information this old biddy (myself) can offer, my sorrow to say.

What else is on the commercial - what's the "story"? I never notice what's being advertised, or rarely, but kind of like commercials generally and will watch out for this one for you. Where is it being shown - in the US? in Europe?

Saw an Audi commercial over the weekend and the song in the background sounds like an Irish language song. Can anyone identify it? A woman sings it. It is very pretty.
