Warikshire canal ring suggestions

4 folkies will be doing the ring the first 2 weeks in July this year starting at Napton.
Anybody know of any folk clubs/sessions/ events happening within travelling distance of the canal? 3 of us have bus passes.
In addition, any good pubs or sights you would say we should not miss as we will have a few spare days to moore up within the fortnight.

My first suggestion would be to re-introduce the second 'W' into Warwickshire. The thread title looks almost obscene :)

That's Leamington - Warwick - Birmingham (Gas Street Basin) - Tamworth - Atherstone - Nuneaton (- Bedworth and Coventry, perhaps) - Rugby and back to Napton, I imagine.

everything I know within 40Km of Warwick can be found at cresby.com > "Found Here" but just to get you started I have centred it on Warwick. Notably Banbury FC (Wed) is on the Oxford Canal less than 100 yards from it. Black Diamond (Fri) is in Brum but where you moor safely I cannot say, Gas street Basin is not too bad, a decent walk though.
The Gamecock in Tam'th (actually Polesworth) is fairly near the canal .8 mile according to Google, moor near Marker St bridge see Pub (Fri if I remember) but not sure if it still runs. But I suspect this is where they are now and they are also near the Coventry Canal.
With any of these it is best to check anyway.

Maybe see you at Warwick Folk Festival? You will spot me - say hello.

If you are all singers , try having an informal sing in any pub you night stop near . we used to do that all the time when canal cruising , though we tended to be a tad more numerous .

There is a Coventry FC not sure of it's location. Quigley's in Rugby is mid week sometime.

Looks like a nice trip to do. An acquaintance of mine is involved with Tamworth Folk and Rambling Club, so seeing as Tamworth is on the route I thought I would add a link to that. I've never been myself so can't recommend as such (maybe someone else on here has experience of it?) but it looks like they have a weekly folk club meet on Friday evenings and that there is a festival weekend on 12-14th July.A bunch of my mates were at a bluegrass festival at the same venue (Bolehill Manor) run by some of the same people and all spoke highly of the place.

Sorrie bout t' spelin - I've always heard it as Warik - how is it actually pronounced?
How far is Warwick Bedworth and Tamworth from the canal? We do not know this canal as the boats only just been moved. We have bus passes but often the busses are very infrequent late at night. One of our group does not walk very well. We can taxi reasonable distances.
Mr Red - how could we have timed it so badly to miss the Warwick festival. ( In my defence it was not I who chose the 2 weeks - we are just the crew for the owners).
Leadfingers - My strangest experience was an evening when we had a bit of a sing/play on board and there were odd noises from the towpath. A young dancer was demonstrating her irish dancing to her family to the tune I was playing.
Thanks for all the info so far. It will help us decide if we go clock or anti clock.

Folk on the Water, a sort of travelling folk show, are playing at Newbold this coming weekend: should you be starting this Saturday, you might make the Sunday night performance if you travel widdershins. Then they're off to the Nelson at Braunston for the last June weekend. The following Friday and Saturday (28th/29th) they're at the Folly at Napton. After which the Two Boats at Long Itchington and then Cape of Good Hope at Warwick for weekend 6th/7th July. That's reasonable for a Saturday lunchtime start from Napton, but if you're starting in a week's time you could be be just out of phase with them.

(29th and 30th June) as will excellent local band Three Men In A Boat.

Dave - already looked at this on the net and probably will drive over on the Sunday. What sort of music do you play? What do 3 men in a boat play? I think that driving will easier than bringing the boat?
