Help! I am in a predicament: One song, two tunes... a ballad version and a bluesy one. Please have a listen to the latest ("Argument") and help me choose. You could rate the versions with marks out of 5 (5=high), if you care, and post your views here...

Here is the bluesy version, musically of more interest. On the other hand, the ballad version seems to fit your lyrics better, George, and perhaps your temperament. You may try a third version, combining the merits of each.

Thanks folks. The two tunes are in fact closely related already. The underlying musical structures are similar (unsurprisingly, as they support the same lyrics and story). You are right, Grishka, the ballad (which came first) fits the lyrics better in terms of imparting emotions, while the blues version (which is in a major key) lightens the song and turns it to angry/bitter rather than "woe-is-me" sad. Some people prefer the blues version for that very reason (Vanessa was the first, and she has won me round). I like both, but the blues is more fun to sing.

maybe it'll be the type of audience your playing to will determine which you choose to perform ?

I havent heard them yet as I am usually influenced by the first rendition I hear.

swap half way through even ?

My reply seems to have got lost in the ether. What I said was that I'm more of a blues person but on balance I think the ballad version suits your voice better, George.

A good song, but the ballad version sounds as there are too many words in it. The bluesy tune fits better.
