At the English Country Music Weekend in Derby ,a session was held totally dedicated to playing Morris Dance Music.
During a two hour session very few Morris tunes were repeated and overall it was well attended and definitely worth repeating. Not sure if this is a first, but highly recommended for other festivals or weekend events.A morris team to dance to the mass band would be nice as a special feature ,but not essential.

Ah but what style? Cotswold, Border, NorthWest, Molly, Longsword...

At Whitby FW, Whitby Scratch Morris dance out Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It's Cotswold and we welcome any players of any standard or instrument, and we have dancers (if you can call that dancing).

The only one I get a bit fed up of hearing is 'Donkey Riding' because at times it seems to get played to death.

I enjoyed that session.   Don't know any morris tunes to lead, but it was fun anyhow.   Had to keep interrupting eating my breakfast cos they kept playing good tunes and I just had to play along.

Thanks Al and your co-leader.

Joy

Thanks Joy.
My co -leader was Malcolm Woods a lovely player and a great guy.
It looks as if it is going to be repeated next year with additional talk and hopefully Morris Dancers to dance to the mass band .
Strangely enough "Soldier Boy"    "Donkey Riding" was not played,
Best response, "Ring o Bells" what a lovely tune that is.
Al
