Does anyone know original verses to this song? The chorus is clearly religious in origin, but I've never heard verses which are not union or civil rights.

OK, here it is, straight off the pages of Heavenly Highway Hymns/Stamps-Baxter, 1956. Written by V. O. Fossett. Turn in your hymnbooks to #13, please!

Glory hallelujah, I shall not be moved;
Anchored in Jehovah, I shall not be moved;
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
I shall not be moved.
I shall not be, I shall not be moved,
I shall not be, I shall not be moved;
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
I shall not be moved.

In his love abiding, I shall not be moved;
And in Him confiding, I shall not be moved; etc.

Though all hell assail me, I shall not be moved;
Jesus will not fail me, I shall not be moved; etc.

Though the tempest rages, I shall not be moved;
On the Rock of Ages, I shall not be moved; etc.

My very favorite string band at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas, does a fantastic rousing version of this great old gospel song.

Heavenly Highway Hymns, by the way, is still in print and is a great source for the best of the old gospel songs. It was compiled by Luther G. Presley of Pangburn, Arkansas, best known as the author of When The Saints Go Marching In.

There is also a fine version by Mississippi John Hurt on "The Best of..."

Howdy Folks,

I also have stumbled across the Baptist Hymnal 1991 -- Midi Files at http://computerstore.utsa.edu/bsm/hymnal/ with many hymns from that one in midi format with more added regularly.

Pete Seeger also added verses to this song, turning it into a ZIPPER song, zipping short phrases in that appealed to the interests of his often secular audience members.
