Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: GUEST Date: 04 Jul 13 - 11:46 AM Pity "Green Onions" is an instrumental ! Second that came to mind was "Green Green" by New Christy Minstrels (see Youtube).. easily singable chorus but don't let them hear Barry McGuire's vocal.. they might think it's a monster. |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: Mo the caller Date: 04 Jul 13 - 05:33 PM The Green grass grew around would work well - a cumulative song (with actions, possibly). How about the Caterpillar song. To the tune of Coming round the Mountain. With more action. Not sure that I remember the words exactly. But each verse only has 1 line, repeated, and a spoken comment. There's a tiny caterpillar on a leaf (wriggle, wriggle) He's eating up the the leaf to make him grow (munch munch) He spins a silk cocoon to take a sleep (spin, spin) [or something like that....] Hes turned into a pretty butterfly (flap flap) |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: GUEST,franc 91 Date: 05 Jul 13 - 12:05 PM Here's another one (though perhaps it might be a bit too long and complicated for pre-school chidren as might be the case for 'The Keeper' given above) In a wood there grew a tree, The best tree you ever did see, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And on this tree there was a branch, The best branch you ever did see, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And on this branch there was a nest, The best nest you ever did see, The nest was on the branch, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And in this nest there was an egg, The best egg you ever did see, The egg was in the nest, The nest was on the branch, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And in this egg there was a yolk, The best yolk you ever did see, The yolk was in the egg, The egg was in the nest, The nest was on the branch, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And in this yolk there was a bird, The best bird you ever did see, The bird was in the yolk, The yolk was in the egg, The egg was in the nest, The nest was on the branch, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. And on this bird there was a feather The best feather you ever did see, The feather was on the bird, The bird was in the yolk, The yolk was in the egg, The egg was in the nest, The nest was on the branch, The branch was on the tree, The tree was in the wood, And the green leaves grew all around, all around, And the green leaves grew all around. |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: GUEST,franc 91 Date: 05 Jul 13 - 12:09 PM Concerning 'Ten Green Bottles'- here (in Europe) we sing - Ten Green Bottles standing on the wall, but aparently the American version is - Ten Green Bottles hanging on a wall. Am I right in thinking that? |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: Jim Carroll Date: 06 Jul 13 - 11:20 AM Not the colour but - I know a lady named Mrs Green, Airy, airy I do, I know a woman named Mrs Green, Down by the greenwood side O She had two babies long and small, She didn't like them, not at all. She stuck a penknife in their hearts She stuck a penknife in their hearts The policemen came the very next day And took poor Mrs Green away. They took her in the Black Maria And tied her up with old barbed wire. They hanged her from the cherry tree, And that was the end of Mrs Green. The moral of this story is, Don't stick knives in baby's heads. Then of course there's always the one that begins: "Green is the colour of my true-love's teeth." Sorry if this has been less than helpful - couldn't resist., Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: Ron Davies Date: 06 Jul 13 - 12:43 PM If you can get puppets or cut out pictures of the animals, you can do the "Unicorn". "There were green alligators..." I've done it for 2 and 3 year olds. Big hit. Though they do try to take the puppets off your hand. |

Subject: RE: Songs for Pre-schoolers with 'GREEN' From: Ron Davies Date: 06 Jul 13 - 12:52 PM Yup. We're lucky in that we have a poster of a painting (by my great grandfather) over the fireplace mantel. He specialized in nymphs and melancholy landscapes. Often with unicorns--evidently for the symbolism. So I just pointed at the poster for that. |
