Hello guys!

We're going to be heading up to Sidmouth this year and we're trying to find a friendly drive/garden close to the town centre to pitch our campervan for the first Friday and Saturday.

Just wondering if any MCers would be able to help? We can pay in songs...! :)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Jon

First instinct would be to try the Rugby Club - they allow campervans but not caravans and I know several regulars park up there - not sure if they charge.

I feel a protest song coming on.

Campervan, oh, campervan!
Who's got a berth for a campervan?
I'll sing you a song of a world gone wrong
And they've got no room for a campervan...

Hey Acorn4,

Thanks for that - we've used them in the past - but apparently they've put their prices up to £40 a night...!

We were kind of hoping to avoid B&B-esque prices!

Guess we'll have to fork out if nothing else turns up, though!

Not applicable in your place, but in the US individual Walmart stores are allowed to permit parking "large vehicles." It's left completely up to the individual store manager, but in some places it's about the only place one can stop overnight (or a little longer) without fees, and of course you have to ask (before you park) if the local manager is willing.

In a community where the town is "supportive" of a festival, it might be possible to convince a few commercial businesses with a little more parking space than they really use that it would be great "public relations" to let a very few people park on their lots; but that would likely require a "local with an agenda" to do some selling of the idea.

John

Try this - but none of the options are close to the town centre.

Why not park up at the golf centre top of Sidmouth Hill not far from donkey sanctury. There is a bus that you pick up from the door which takes you to the Ham. Runs frequently until early hours of the morning. Cheap too. Allan C

the rugby club charges £170 for 8 nights, not £40 per night. They do book up pretty quickly though.

we are booked for the Rugby Club. They do have cancellations and will refer you on to the cancellee. But it is a hope.

The Salcombe Regis Golf Club probably have pitches and decent facilities but they are not that amenable in my experience.

The good news is that virtually opposite and served by the same bus is the (sort of Golf facility) opposite run by the brother. Huge fields (far far less packed in), acceptable facilities and quiet after the weekend. Find the snooty Golf Club and travel about 300 yards further east along the lane. They do have music of their own the first weekend.

There always seem to be campervans in the car-park next to the ice cream stall near The Bedford , but I guess you'd have to pay a lot .And , yes ,both the Rugby Club and the Cricket Club are good ,and central , BUT ; very popular !! How things have changed since my first Sidmouth ( 1965 !); it's a bit crowded for us now ,so we'll go a few miles away ,and drive in daily ; Madam will have to stay sober !

Hope you find a camping space that will enable you both to get to the Royal York & Faulkner in time for the morning singarounds (10.30-12.30 from Sunday through to Friday)...!

Kitty

Yes, Jon - do make sure you get to the Royal York & Faulkner for the morning singarounds but remember to pop just across the road for a while between 11 & 12 and join in with Wild Thyme to do some Border Morris dancing (Mon - Fri)

Sue (who, like Kitty, saw the pair of you at both Wimborne & Alcester and really enjoyed what you did)

We'll definitely try and get to both of those.

Can't wait!
