A spot of confusion to be cleared up here.

"Martin Carthy Book" can be taken to mean two things:

-- a book authored by someone else, concerning
Martin Carthy's life and career, and its significance to
the revival of traditional music in England.

-- a book on the subject of a specific category of traditional songs, and what the songs illustrate about their time and place,
co-authored by two authorities:
one an authority on the judicial system and
the other, Martin Carthy, an authority on traditional music.

So this thread is now going in two directions at once,
as these are two very different books.

I'm obviously missing something in the subtext here.
You may not be a fan of Martin's music.....but why would it be in the history of crime?
Which other songs will be taken into consideration when we enter the sentencing phase of the trial.

I read in the London Review of Books that there is a forthcoming book that Martin Carthy is co-authoring with the lawyer and folk revival activist Stephen Sedley. Titled 'Who Killed Cock Robin?' and due in July it focusses on British folksongs of crime and punishment.

the very latest I could find about his work
is in his Tweets.   

I believe the posts I am quoting are January of ... this year? 2021?
Could be mistaken about that.

Perhaps Martin should get someone to ghost write it for him. then he wouldn't have to stop playing - and lets face it - he enjoys playing, so that's obviously what to do while the force is with him.

He always does a good interview - an entire book would be good. I'd buy it.

Not quite what you are looking for but a book that is due for publication in March this year deals with the history of British Folk Clubs. It includes contributions from many who were on the scene from the beginning including Martin Carthy. It should be of interest to many Mudcat followers this side of the Atlantic.

I'd almost forgotten about this! It was mentioned in the booklet for Martin's "Carthy Chronicles" box set from 2001 and publication of the first part was then imminent. I've heard nothing about bankruptcy or related legal issues but as nothing has appeared in the subsequent 13 years something drastic has clearly happened to cease or delay publication.

Thanks Martin Farrell for the reminder - I'm going to make some enquiries and see what I can find out.

Didn't the publisher go under or something? I seem to recall reading or hearing it was done but there were legal issues arising from the bankruptcy.

Years ago I read that Nick Kent was about to publish a two part book on the folk revival and Martin Carthy's role in it. It was to be called Prince Heathen. Has it been shelved or is it still a work in progress? Hopefully it's the latter. Thanks in advance for any help.
