Chas Wright - of course. i remember him turning up in Chipping Sodbury Folk Club having cycled on a rather tasty looking road bike from Bristol - and he was not a slight person!

Hya Les, jim The Fish, Jim Parkinson RIP died a few years ago.

He lived for many years in Bristol and ran a pub with his wife Val near the fish market.Mary and I kept in touch with him for a lot of years.

Chas Wright is the guy you are thinking of.Last heard of he was running a Brewery in the Bristol area..Jim called him his best mate LOL!!

Malcolm: we are getting in touch with as many people as we can using different methods. This thread is just one of the methods. It will be an ongoing project, the chance to put something on at Hull Folk Festival will hopefully help us collect material from people who visit.

You're welcome to copy my copy. I'll lend you it when I see you if I can find it. The quality won't be brilliant as it was copied from a 50-year-old LP which wasn't brilliant quality when it was produced.

No, I remember Fish Jim from Leeds, 71-72 then he turned up in Bristol when we lived in Bath - 75- 78. We used to go to the Chipping Sodbury Club and Jim would turn up and sometimes sing the Whitby Lad amongst other things.

Another ex-Leeds character was Chas can't rememeber his other name - still a long way from Hull

I have oodles of stuff but no time at the moment to do anything to help.

More notice would have been good.

I can think of lots of people who would have stuff / memories etc but I'm not sure Mudcat is the way to get to them.

East Anglian folk rockers fiddler Jo played in a band for Irish set dancing with Denny Bartley whilst they were both at university in Hull, I'll ask if she has any photos.

I'm also going to approach some of the local institutions with the possibility of setting up a local folk archive for all folk institutions in the area, living or dead.

À number of us Hull folkies are putting together a collection of materials to illustrate the history of folk music and dance in Hull (the one in East Yorkshire, UK in case of any confusion). So this goes out to any former Hull persons who are unfortunate enough to be no longer living in Hull, or to other people with Hull connections. If you have any photos, recordings or memorabilia connected with the history of folk in Hull, please let us know. We can copy photos and recordings or scan other items and return them. We will be displaying items at Hull Folk Festival, 30th and 31st August. You can pm me or Steve Gardham if you are too ashamed to post here!
