I am collecting songs and in fact recordings of girls age 10-14 for a new CD, along the lines of the lullaby CD..which means no copyright issues as they will be able to copy it and distribute it themselves. I might have enough girls from US and Canada..but perhaps not. What I would like is a few from overseas...especially Ukraine and Afgahnistan if there are no security issues. We are not going to give the names of the girls out due to their ages and sometimes difficulties in their countries. Security is the main issue here. Songs should be traditional or perhaps written by someone who waives all copyright for this CD...topics and lyrics will be under scrutiny...nothing traumatic, political, religious, inappropriate for young girls in conservative countries. I believe we have people from Poland, Kenya and Mexico so far. Possibly Vietnam and Palestine. Sound quality is going to be variable due to resources in some places..anything that sounds OK to average ears should be OK...but if it is full of static etc. probably can't use it. Could be recorded on computer, cassette, etc. if reasonable quality. Don't make any promises and please let me see lyrics but I will do my best to put people on. Songs should be non-depressing, somewhat hopeful, encourage girls to stay in school etc...or just be pretty traditional songs.

Countless girls 10-14 upload their recordings to YouTube (though perhaps not many from Afghanistan). If you find something you like, you can post a "comment" asking for permission. Google-translate can be helpful, also for search keywords.

Girls' choirs abound as well, and most of them deserve being promoted.

As for encourage girls to stay in school - don't be too demanding in terms of good intent and authenticity. Most youngsters appreciate a good education but are not too anxious to preach to their peers, unless shoved by adults.
