Hi, Leeneia - the "shadowed" effect has something to do with layering, and I have to say I don't understand it. The name of the file is http://joe-offer.com/MudcatMIDI/2013/twilightastealingritchie.mid - so it's Jean Ritchie's version of "Twilight A-Stealing." I'm pretty sure the original file was my transcription.
If somebody can explain "layering" in Noteworthy Composer, that would be very helpful. I don't understand "layering" in Photoshop, either.

Hello, Joe. That file you linked may have started with me, but if so it's undergone a sea change. I took a look at it in NoteWorthy, and it has a 'buried' light gray set of notes merged with the melody - something I would never do. And thhere's something wrong with the key, and that's the kind of error I always fix.

Also, I wouldn't name a file 'twlightgritchie'.

PS It's a problem which crops up very infrequently, but when it does, my solution for making the last note sound is to have a very slight tempo variance (eg using a ritardando) before and after the last note.

(Perhaps a better solution would be to open the MIDI file in a MIDI editor, and resave?)

If the last note is short (eg an eighth note) then i find it doesn't play in Windows Media Player. So if two major media players are (sometimes) having problems, then it seems more like a Noteworthy problem?

No need to apologize, Joe. We all know that computers can do some goofy things, no matter what the salesmen claim. ("A computer does exactly what you tell it to, no more, no less." Yeah, right.)

For example, my computer lapses into Swedish from time to time. Both Google and Microsoft claim that my language setting is English (US), but sometimes it ignores those settings and talks Swedish anyway.

Did you know that the Swedish word for Shopping is Shopping?

Well, looks like I answered my own question (more-or-less in agreement with Grishka and leeneia). The last note won't play in Winamp. I switched to Quicktime and Windows Media Player, and it played just fine. Guess I need to change my default player for MIDI files. I guess the culprit is Winamp.

Thanks, Grishka and leeneia. I should have thought of that myself, but you know how it goes.

I just downloaded the MIDI file, and it plays alright in my software (unless there is another note meant to follow the whole note G with the lyrics "bright."). If your MIDI file player (e.g. Windows Media Player) does not play it correctly, it is that software's fault, not Noteworthy's.

(The only problem I see in the file is that the music is in G major but the signature says F major.)

If however "the last note of the MIDI won't play for me" means: in NWC, the MIDI file is of no help to us; you must upload the NWC file and ask other users.

Hi, Leeneia -
If you look under "Help" and then "about" in Noteworthy Composer, you will find the version you're using. Mine is 2.55, which is supposed to be the most recent version. NWC32.exe means you're using the 32-bit version of the program. I believe NWC.exe was a 16-bit program.

When I click on Detail, my Noteworthy says it is 'NWC32.exe.' So I guess that's Noteworthy 3. That's baffling about the last note. The last note plays okay here in the Midwest.

I made a *.nwc file in Noteworthy Composer 2, and then I exported it to MIDI. For some reason, the last note of the MIDI won't play for me - but yet if I download the MIDI and import it to Noteworthy, that last note is there. This often also happens with the MIDI files I get from Leeneia, so I'm guessing she's also using Noteworthy 2.

Do the rest of you have the same problem with this MIDI? Any solutions?
