Subject: Lyr Req: Sean My Boy Is Going Away From: Joe Offer Date: 13 Aug 13 - 04:43 AM I received this by e-mail. Can anybody help??
Sorry for the sketchy words but this song is partially known to my mother-in-law and we need to find it URGENTLY before the funeral of her son Sean, my brother in law, on Wednesday in England. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. We have spent hours scouring the internet to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can come up with. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sean My Boy Is Going Away From: PuterMan Date: 14 Aug 13 - 05:55 AM A bit of additional information. My Mother-in-law comes from the Westport, Co Mayo area and moved to England when she was ~16. I believe she learnt the song whilst in Ireland so that makes it of the order of 65 years ago and possibly a Mayo song (?) if that is any help. It is possible of course that the original does not use the name Sean, but I have searched on other phrases to no avail. I accept that we are not going to get this for Wednesday, but in time for the Requiem Mass on the anniversary would be great. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Sean My Boy Is Going Away From: MartinRyan Date: 14 Aug 13 - 06:10 AM I have one small collection of local (East) Mayo songs - actually the notes and lyrics for an album of same. No sign. I'll add it to my list of things to follow up in the irish Traditional Music Archive! Regards |
