Our monthly shanty, forebitter, and ballad song session will be happening this Saturday, August 17th, at The Press Room on Daniel St. in Portsmouth, NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. We had quite a crew last month, including some seldom seens and at least one (hmmm...I think at least three) first timers. But we were missing a few regulars and they were missed...

I think, too, we should raise a glass and sing a song for Louis/Louisa Jo Killen who passed away last Friday. I know a lot of us were majorly influenced by Lou's singing and recordings. Lou never made it to a shanty session, but sang with us at the Friday session several times, was part of the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival and performed at several house concerts in the area over the years. Tom and I first met Lou back in the '80s when Jay Smith put him on the bill at The Press Room. I know it was early in the month because Jay, as usual, hadn't gotten the calendar out yet, so he had to call Tom to tell him. We were there (about the only people upstairs) and Tom and I and Chris Albrecht and Jay when he could sit down, sat smack in front of the stage and joined in every chorus.

See you at The Press Room Saturday!

Linn

Nice session! Haven't had time to post anything -- been working on the PMFF flyer and making vindaloo before heading off to Chris Vaughan's birthday bash at The Press Room.

Here's the crew, though, from yesterday -- Tom and me, of course, Susan Young, Mike Blair (for awhile at least; after Great Bay Sailor's gig at the Albacore), Bruce MacIntyre (ditto), Erin Hathaway Weaver and Colby from Vermont, Tami Bill (Ranger1) and Jason, Don Hale, Charlie Ipcar (Charley Noble) Steve Smith (exhibiting his climb up the ladders to the top of the new Memorial Bridge), Jeri, Phyllis Richard-Sloat, Joe & Lorna Simes, Bill Perry, Nicole (Ramona's student whose last name escapes me right now), Bill Lehrman & Carol Pierson from Boston, Carol Coronis, Ramona Connelly, Peter Hale (late, but at least he got there),

Gotta go -- I'M running late!
