Subject: Fav Morris side?? From: Claire M Date: 25 Aug 13 - 10:33 AM Hiya, Pig Dyke Molly. I always think I don't like folk music till I actually hear it, then I love it. PDM reminded me a lot of KISS/Tim Burton cos of their b&w make-up. I loved their tunes & want their Nodger [zebra w/ big eyes] to come alive & be one of my pets. Very effective & a bit creepy as the sun went down; felt like I was dreaming. By the end of the night I was so knackered I looked like one of the members. Even their name sounds like a rock band, or some niche website. I'd love to have them dance where I live. |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Rapparee Date: 25 Aug 13 - 10:39 AM It depends on the sauce in which the Morris is cooked. |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 25 Aug 13 - 02:04 PM Witchmen! But I also love Leicester Morris, with Moss Ambrose as Fool, Gog Magog, Kemp's Men, Loose Women ... I'm obsessed with Morris dancing so all of them have me teary-eyed. |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 25 Aug 13 - 02:29 PM Twit that I am! Moss Ambrose is with Leeds Morris, not Leicester! |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 25 Aug 13 - 06:31 PM Well I just have to say Wild Thyme, which is the "come all ye" team at Sidmouth, ably instructed by Sue White, who kindly lets me come along and play with the "come all ye too" scratch musicians! Gonna make myself a proper jacket before next year's festival! |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: GUEST,morris groupie Date: 26 Aug 13 - 04:31 AM I will certainly second Tattie Bogle. Sue the ambassador of morris does much to spread the word on Morris dancing, by encouraging all comers to have a go of all ages. The smiles on the faces tell all. Victory Morris of Portsmouth will come out tops for me though. A group of enthusiastic dancers who do not take themselves too seriously. They are enjoyable to watch and to be around. They finish with excellent and hearty singing. |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 26 Aug 13 - 10:59 AM Black Joak - Sydney's best (and only) living Cotswold morris dancing side |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: GUEST,Blackface Date: 26 Aug 13 - 03:50 PM Well I think that Tattered Swan Border Morris was the greatest. They brought a new passion to border morris and were only one of a few border sides in the 80's before the current explosion of pseudo border where traditions are replaced by 'one upmanship' and attempts at being 'hip'. |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: treewind Date: 26 Aug 13 - 04:20 PM I was hugely impressed with White Rose Morris at Whitby this year. They are a Cotswold team who have broken the mould by seeming to get younger every year for most of the 15 years I've known them. As for Pig Dyke Molly - Claire, I've passed your email message to the rest of the team to read... but where DO you live? Perhaps we can come and dance there? Anahata (Pig Dyke Molly Webmaster and musician) |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Dave Hunt Date: 26 Aug 13 - 09:39 PM Ironmen and Severn Gilders of course - probably because I'm the longest (and oldest!) serving member - at thirty-seven+? years. We've just had a fantastic time at Shrewsbury Festival..where we always finish the morris show on the Monday..and also had a great time dancing around the town on Sat and Sun. Always welcoming to new dancers/musicians...we have an Open Evening next Monday at the Elephant and Castle in Dawley (Telford) See www.ironmenandseverngilders.org |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: GUEST,John Foxen Date: 27 Aug 13 - 10:16 AM Apart from Wreckers, Widders and Lodestone for whom I play, it would have to be Flagcrackers of Craven and Borderline of Devon. Least favourite has to be Fools Gambit who are so young, energetic and talented they make me feel even older and more decrepit than I am. ;-) |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Claire M Date: 28 Aug 13 - 09:23 AM Hiya, To Rapparee: brandy & cream w/ skinny chips, please..... To Eliza: why?? Is it their tunes?? Let me guess; you're a Pratchett reader, aren't you?? To Anahata: great! check PM! |
Subject: RE: Fav Morris side?? From: Acorn4 Date: 28 Aug 13 - 11:48 AM As a non Morris person and just as a result of watching, Rattlejag seem to have an interesting set of routines. |
