This event will be a fundraiser for the 2014 Mystic Sea Music Festival on Saturday, September 14. Anderson's concert will be in the Boat Shed (dress warmly if the weather is cool) from 7-9 PM followed by a chantey sing across the street at Froshinn Hall. More information is here. http://www.mysticseaport.org/event/alistair-anderson-concert/

I went to Mystic today and bought my ticket. When I got home I found a group email from Geoff Kaufman who organized this concert and also organizes the January Chantey Blast and the June Sea Music Festival. According to his email, ticket sales are going slowly and the concert may have to be cancelled! That means not only would there be no concert, but no funds to support the Sea Music Festival will be raised!

If you are planning to go but haven't bought your ticket, please do so soon. When you go to the link above, you will see a Buy Tickets clicky. This is a wonderful opportunity to see and hear this fine performer from across the pond at a reasonable price.

I just purchased my ticket by phone (860-572-0711, ext 4210). I haven't seen Alistair in quite a few years and I'm really looking forward to this. Hope to see lots of folks there. Remember, there's a chantey sing at the German club across the street after the concert.

Regards,
John

Thank you, John! If this concert does happen, I hope to meet you and any other Mudcatters who come. Look for the woman with her own folding chair and large-brimmed floppy yellow hat. I usually sit near the back.

I'm still waiting to hear whether or not this event is a "Go." I am holding my breath.

I still haven't heard anything. I'd like to assume that means the concert will take place. However, that's an assumption I don't dare make! The concert is still appearing on Mystic Seaport's schedule, and the link to buy tickets still works. Because I bought my ticket while I was at the seaport, I hadn't checked that link. When I did, I also saw that The Galley Restaurant (counter service but generally good food) will be open until 7 that night--again, if this concert takes place!

Yippee! I just saw this message from Mystic Seaport on my Facebook Wall!

Internationally recognized master of the English Concertina and Northumbrian Pipes player Alistair Anderson will perform a special concert at Mystic Seaport this Saturday, September 14, at 7 pm. Join us at the Boat Shed, located alongside the Mystic River, and listen as Anderson performs traditional music from Northumberland as well as his own music. Immediately following the performance a chantey sing will be held at Frohsinn Hall (54 Greenmanville Ave. in Mystic). Concert tickets are $20 (member $15) and can be purchased online or by calling 860.572.0711. All ticket proceeds will benefit the Museum's 35th annual Sea Music Festival. Good news. Anybody who lives in the area (the Northeastern United States and beyond) should do themselves a favor and go to see this legendary performer.

One more time!

Seriously, although the daytime weather and temperature should be fine, it will probably feel cool in the evening, so bring a layer for warmth just in case! The Boat Shed can be quite chilly.

And I'm off! Might as well get there in time for the first daily music demo!

It was wonderful, of course. There were very few seats left in Greenmanville Church which was warmer than the Boat Shed and had better acoustics! The Chantey Sing afterwards was fun, too, though fewer people than usual were there and it ended fairly early. It was great to see Sally Rogers and Howie Bursen there. I have seen them often but not at the seaport. I am glad they stayed for the pub sing.

Because I went early enough to spend most of the day at Mystic Seaport, I went to one of the best-ever dogwatches. David was the chanteyman of the day, but this dogwatch was special because of the number of other staff members, including other chantey singers, who were there. In addition to David, Denise, Matt, Liz, Tim, and Mary Kay were present, and Chris showed up, too. I don't think it was a work day for him but that he came early for the concert. And I may be leaving someone out. I'm trying to visualize if someone was sitting between David and Liz, but I'm blanking.
