Subject: Laura Marling From: open mike Date: 27 Aug 13 - 03:55 AM I just saw/heard this singer on David Letterman (late night "talk" show) she only sang one song . I had not heard of her...what type of reception is she getting in U.K.? I would like to contact her label or management for materials to help promote her current U.S tour? |

Subject: RE: info: Laura Marling From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 27 Aug 13 - 05:21 AM Pretty much unanimous critical acclaim since she started. Think her albums aren't selling too badly either. She's absurdly young to be such an accomplished songwriter already on her 4th (5th?) album. Music and lyrics aren't my cup of tea though; a bit too trying-hard-to-be-literary for my taste. |

Subject: RE: info: Laura Marling From: Rob Naylor Date: 27 Aug 13 - 06:49 PM She's been around quite a while, despite her very tender years. First mention of her that I know of on Mudcat was in 2007: Laura Marling I first saw her as a solo artiste in 2008. I think that was the year she was refused entry to one of her own concerts as the venue had an "over 18" and she was under age. The fact that she was the performer cut no ice with the management so the gig had to be cancelled! I really like a lot of her songs but I also think that some of them try a bit too hard to be clever. Quite a lot of teenage angst going on in the early stuff. I doubt very much that she'll need help in promoting an American tour....she's well-established enough to have a good team working for her over there. |

Subject: RE: info: Laura Marling From: GUEST,matt milton Date: 28 Aug 13 - 05:58 AM The song of hers I like most is this one: Goodbye England (Covered In Snow) There are parallels with 'On Top of Old Smokie' (or its variants eg 'Courting's a Pleasure'). It's a song that I could well imagine Chris Wood or Eliza Carthy or Martin Simpson singing. |

Subject: RE: info: Laura Marling From: Rob Naylor Date: 28 Aug 13 - 09:52 PM These are two of her very earliest, written when she was just 16: New Romantic My Manic and I Full of angst and obviously in the throes of first-love-break-up but when I heard them back in 2007 I just knew she'd become well-known one day. |
