Subject: RE: The Widow's Uniform - complete playlist From: GUEST,Lighter Date: 06 Sep 13 - 07:50 AM Outstanding. I especially recommend "Mandalay" - both for the performance and for Bellamy's brilliant matching of the words to the tune of "Ten Thousand Miles Way." |
Subject: RE: The Widow's Uniform - complete playlist From: Dave the Gnome Date: 06 Sep 13 - 07:12 AM Thanks George - Great achievement and a wonderful resource for anyone interested in the Kipling/Bellamy genre. I bough my copy of the album years ago at the live show when it was on at Wigan Pier. It was a brilliant show and the album has been constantly on my playlist ever since. I used to share a lift with someone when travelling between Manchester and Bradford on a daily basis. I played it to him and he instantly loved it. I lent it to him - Got it back I am glad to say but I would not have been so cavalier if I had realised how rare it was:-) Cheers DtG |
Subject: RE: The Widow's Uniform - complete playlist From: George Papavgeris Date: 06 Sep 13 - 06:52 AM This album is definitely a "desert island" one for me, probably in my top 5 along with "Sgt Pepper", "Blue", James Taylor's live double album and a live double album of Dalaras & Papaconstantinou (Greek). With all the other artists being megastars and the albums themselves having sold in their hundreds of thousands/millions, this is quite an achievement for a tiny label and a small band of performers in a non-mainstream genre, if you think about it. There are only 1000 copies of The Widow's Uniform made! (And guess who is the jammy sod owning the very last one of those...). |

Subject: The Widow's Uniform - complete playlist From: George Papavgeris Date: 05 Sep 13 - 06:36 PM That's it - done. My "labour of love" is completed. The Rudyard Kipling poems from "Barrack Room Ballads", as set to tunes by Peter Bellamy and recorded in the album "The Widow's Uniform" by Brian Peters, Dave Webber, Anni Fentiman, John Morris, John O'Hagan, Fi Fraser and Gina Le Faux, are now uploaded as videos on YouTube. I you want to watch them all, in sequence, you can use this playlist that I set up. With my deepest thanks to all involved, for the enjoyment they gave and keep giving and, for the education afforded to this latter-day-Brit: The Widow's Uniform |
