Subject: Lyr Add: Willow Tree (Shaker) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 10 Sep 13 - 06:28 PM Lyr. Add: WILLOW TREE Lebanon, ca. 1843 I will bow and be simple, I will bow and be free, I will bow and be humble Yes, bow like the willow tree. I will bow this is a token, I will wear the easy yoke, I will bow and be broken, I will fall upon the rock. Gift Song No. 19, from "Mother's Work." That term applies to a "period of renewed spiritual dedication that began in 1837 and tapered away about ten years later. With musical score, pp. 339-340, Daniel W. Patterson, 1979, "The Shaker Spiritual, Princeton Univ. (Reprint, Dover Books). Tune different, but similarities with "Simple Gifts." |
