Subject: Where did all the thread go? From: GUEST Date: 18 Sep 13 - 12:27 AM Where did all the threads go? |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Sep 13 - 12:32 AM Change the 'age' number to, say, seven days and you'll get them. |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: MGM·Lion Date: 18 Sep 13 - 12:55 AM Can't 'change' anything to anything, BWM, if can't bring up the site in the first place. All I got was the 'taken offline card' all day yesterday. ~M~ |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Ebbie Date: 18 Sep 13 - 12:56 AM How nice to see it back! |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Sep 13 - 01:10 AM A photo on the Mudcat facebook page that shows how to change the number of days of threads being viewed. |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 18 Sep 13 - 01:41 AM Just set the filter for 3, 7 or whatever days, click refresh, and all the old stuff comes back. Mudcat on facebook? HORRORS! I refuse to go there. |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: MGM·Lion Date: 18 Sep 13 - 01:44 AM You last two just don't get the point ~~ if you can't access the site in the first place, you can't change or set anything. ~M~ |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Sep 13 - 02:01 AM You're right, Mike. Performance is still spotty, but it looks like we're back up. Thanks, Max. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: r.padgett Date: 18 Sep 13 - 03:47 AM Yes thanks Max, devil of a job I shouldn't wonder! Ray |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Sep 13 - 04:20 AM Michael, if you can't access the site, HTF are you managing to post here? The OP was bemused, as I was, by the fact that, now the site's back up, he/she couldn't see the old threads so, in post #2, I explained how you can make them appear by resetting the 'Age' drop down from '1 day' to however many days' posts it's wished to see. Simples, n'est-ce pas? |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: MGM·Lion Date: 18 Sep 13 - 05:13 AM BWM ~~ We are at x-purposes, I suspect. I interpreted the OP as asking what had happened to all the threads yesterday. You took her to mean, why so few showing today, now it is back? OK? |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: JohnInKansas Date: 18 Sep 13 - 05:21 AM If mudcat doesn't load at all, the question is "where did mudcat go?" It mostly doesn't do much good to try to ask that question here while it's gone. If you look at the "bottom thread" timestamp when the 'cat comes up, it usually tells you when the first post arrived after mudcat came back up, In this case mudcat showed up again around midnight (mudcat time) early Sept 18. It's usually sufficient to refresh 3 days to find when the last post before then was made, which tells you that in this case the 'cat shut down around 6:00 PM (mudcat time) on Sept 16, and was off-line for about a day and a half. This is critically important information to have, since our information on "how many beers does it take to suppress mudcat withdrawal?" is exquisitely sensitive to the duration of the unavailability of the site, and we have insufficient data to publish an acceptable paper on our studies of this behavioral trait among our regulars. Studies have been limited by the usual short duration of shutdowns, as I can't recall an outage where more than a "refresh 3 days" was required to show all the threads that were up before the interruption. The risk of permanent harm to our test subjects has precluded longer tests, since ehticists have declared that would be a "cruel and inhjumane treatment" and have threatened to impose the rules for chimpanzee experiments on us. The question on which we've made almost no progress remains "Isn't there anything that works better than beer when it happens?". John |

Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Backwoodsman Date: 18 Sep 13 - 08:01 AM Gotcha Michael, no problemo señor! I find myself at x-purposes more and more as I move into my dotage - goes with the territory, I guess! :-) |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Jeri Date: 18 Sep 13 - 08:55 AM I'm guessing something happened that necessitated Max restoring from a backup, or caused things close to the 'event' not to be recorded, but I don't actually know anything. Some messages appear to not have been posted though I know I saw them, and other changes were undone. I'm glad we're back. And yes, when you get back into Mudcat, you'll discover that threads have dropped off due to not being posted to. You can set the time to 3 days and refresh. |
Subject: RE: Where did all the thread go? From: Soldier boy Date: 18 Sep 13 - 03:16 PM All the thread went in making the King's new clothes! |
