I've heard various moans about the new iOS concerning this type of thing. I'm still on a prehistoric version, and have no problem with retaining my Mudcat log-in, so I imagine it's to do with the upgrade.

Probably if you go on one of Apple's iPad forums to have a good moan about it you'll find a lot of others already moaning in chorus. Their techies tend to pay attention to those discussions, and often even answer questions, so that's probably the best way to get them to issue a fix, or else tell you what to do.

Let us know via this thread how you get on. Meanwhile I'll stay in my nice warm iOS4 cave till it's safe to come out.

I've got mine set to "from visited" which seems to be a better bet than "always".

I had a notification of an iOS update yesterday which I've not yet installed. There's no knowing what that will do. Updates, regardless of OS have a nasty habit of undoing all your personal settings.

The complication seems to be that, rather than having an option to accept cookies, which can be set to accept particular sites, such as the Mudcat, there's just an option to block cookies, with the only option always, never, or third parties and from advertisers. So the only way I can get it to accept Mudcat cookies is to set it to accept all cookies from everybody.

Oh well, I suppose I'll have to make that choice and put up with it, and hope that Apple come up with some fix. Unless some crafty character has a way round the problem.

I can't offer anything specific to iPads, but many browsers, especially if they (or the OS) include popup blockers, will only accept the cookie that identifies your computer (even if it's just a toy) as a "temporary cookie." Depending on the browser and/or accessory programs installed, the "temp" cookies may be deleted when you leave the site, or when the browser is closed, or when you reboot; so when you come back you're "unknown."

Entering "mudcat.org" as a "trusted site" - you may see an "always allow" there or elsewhere - in IE (Tools|Internet Options|Privacy tab|Sites button) usually solves this problem, and may help with other browsers if you can find a similar setting. This will allow mudcat to give you a "permanent" login cookie, although other cookies that keep track of which threads you've looked at etc. still may or may not be persistent.

Crumbled cookies are more often due to browser settings than to machinery or the OS, although the proliferation of "gadgets" in the newer toys makes it difficult to generalize.

Your Mudcat login should work on an iPad - it works on my Kindle Fire. There must be some way to keep your iPad from deleting your Mudcat cookie.

Someone who understands more about iPads or Mudcat technology might be able to advise here.

I'm finding that when I'm using my IPad, I have to keep on reentering my password here whenI I come back again. If I don't I'm in as a nameless GUEST, which is annoying.

It seems to have started since I had to upgrade to the new Apple Operating System a few weeks ago. I imagine there's maybe some way to lock-in the password, but if so I haven't found it.
