Hello everybody
many thanks to those who have sent cards , messages of sympathy ,etc ,following my recent illness . I was taken ill at Wallingford Bunkfest , 24 hours after scratching my right leg on a bramble (blackberry ) bush. I was rushed off to the Royal Berks Hosptal in Reading , where I have been up until yesterday , suffering from severe cellulitis and kidney failure . Thankfully , if somewhat painfully ,I have been saved by 3 weeks of acute haemo-dialysis and massive intraveinous injections of fluxloxacillin , clindamycin , and linezolid .
I am back home in Tewkesbury with Nicola now , thankfully ,although only able to walk with crutches and very weak after losing 30 pounds or so in weight. So , fellow "catters" --keep well away from those blackberry bushes ,especially the low-trailing ones !!!

Sorry to hear the sad tale Bubbly, glad you are on the mend.

I was just off to collect some nice juicy brambles....think I'll leave it for a while! :0)

Wow! Not so drastic an outcome, but a couple of years ago when I was out weeding some stinging insect did a hit and run on my lower leg and it resulted in a strange domino effect of infections.I think of my garden as a good and healthy place, but every so often you tangle with one of the bad actors out there. I hope you recover completely.

We are all, in the American parlance, rooting for you. In English that means looking through things and in Australian it means something rude, apparently. Maybe we are doing all 3! In any case - Get well soon.

Dunno why I thought that sort of thing only happened on the west side of the pond, so I am pleased to hear you are OKish.

I have a spare 30lbs or so but am stumped as to how to deliver, please let me know if you have any bright ideas, otherwise just keep on buggering on.

Sane voices are ALWAYS needed hereabouts.

Wow - we have just been removing some very enthusiastic brambles from the garden - great big bags of the stuff which has been attacking me all the Summer - we have been lucky.

I do hope that you'll soon be feeling better and stronger.

I shall light a candle for your continued recovery and set it in the middle of the cooker - not that I'm superstitious at all, but you never know with elemental forces...

I've done a number on the blackberry brambles out back, attacking them several times over the past 30 years, hacking them back and pulling them up by the roots. Hope they won't lay in wait for me and take revenge...

It's the unexpected infections that seem to do the most harm -- and nature has been getting more vicious lately.

Hope you're on the mend -- healing thoughts and good wishes coming at you from this neck of the woods.

Linn and Tom (Curmudgeon)

All your mates here in Gloucestershire have been kept informed by Nicola and send all their best wishes for a speedy recovery. You had a close shave, mate, and we're all relieved you came through it. Let us know if there is anything we can do for you both - don't hesitate to ask. Any chance you can make it to Cressida'a party on Sunday? Give us a ring.

Continue to heal and strengthen.

Luv to you both

I have spoken with the man. He is now back home, his leg is healing and he is not on dialysis. He is still very wobbly but he is regaining strength and is keen to get back playing music again. So a close shaved and all looking good now. He has vowed never to go blackberrying again!

I always look suspiciously at blackberries in the fruit & veg shop - they were a weed way back in my younger days(1950s&60s!) but they are now priced like a gourmet fruit!!

A wish of speedy recovery, I hope you feel inspired to learn some more fine tunes on guitar whilst mending. Had I seen this earlier would have dropped in to the RBH!

Weirdest thing - I came on Mudcat to look for the tune to Gibson Girl and thru Leadfingers I spotted this, he's not completely useless then :-)

Hi everybody ! And thankyou so much for all your kind concern and wishes ; I am sure it has been a great help ( really ! ) .I am now clear of addictions ( Tramadol is a bugger to get off !) , able to walk fairly normally , and getting back to daily guitar practice ; thanks to the PPI insurance people, I have been able to indulge in a nice Taylor and Nicola has promised me a soundhole pickup for Christmas !
I am currently doing quite well with "Tommy Bhetty's Waltz". Whilst I'm on here , does anyone know who wrote " Stepstone" as per Walt Michael and Friends ?? I have seen attributions to Mr Guthrie and Mr Lunsford , but Walt himself said at Sidmouth a few years back that it was written by a woman ... ??? Help !!

      Yours ,
Will Fly's Cousin ( and I hope HE never gets acute cellulitis !! )
