Thanks for the reminder Bounty Hound. This is a great event and it would still be good value at twice the price. Buy now! (Well, tickets for Glastonbury 2014 have already gone!)

I've just had an email from Peter (Waddon Pete) requesting a chair for his performance at The Bury St Edmunds Oxjam Folk Weekend,

As the event happens in a Church and church hall, I've offered him the use of the Bishop's throne from the church ;) He might feel a bit more secure on that than he did on a stall last year, there are still those wondering how he stayed upright on the fiercely sloping stage. Have a look at the press cutting on Peter's website and you'll see what I mean!
Waddon Pete at Bury Oxjam 2012

Don't forget that this year, by popular demand, we've included a singaround in the programme, and we would love to see you, and your voice there:) there is also a real ale bar all weekend, with beer supplied by The Dove, Bury's finest pub!

Tickets available here: Bury Oxjam Folk Weekend tickets Just £20.00 for a fantastic line up, and every penny raised goes to support the work of Oxfam.

Mitre been good, but the arms would get in the way, methinks!

....staying upright was easy....thanks to folk nights at the ski slope...a sloping stool, now that *was* a challenge....

Strangely, we're in the area overnight on the Friday so hopefully will be able to get to the Singaround on the Saturday afternoon at least before we head back to Surrey.

Does anyone know whether there'll be anything going on Friday evening locally?
Hils

The Milkmaid Folk Club have their monthly unplugged night on the 25th (at the Constitutional Club in the town centre)

It's not a singaround, but 'booked' floor spots, if you fancy that Hils, email Brian: folkwaller@yahoo.co.uk   If you tell Brian you're a stranger in these parts and just passing through I'm sure he'll fit you in, tell him I've seen you singing and can vouch for you :)

I would normally be at the Milkmaid myself, but on that particular evening, I'll be assembling a stage, setting up PA equipment etc, and generally turning a church into a concert venue!

You might like to know that Colin & Rosie from Moira Furnace will be at Oxjam.

Enjoy your trip to Suffolk :)

I see you're getting some great PR Mr Hounds:

"Big thank you to Mr Phil Beer for the great plug to a full house at The Apex tonight for The Bury St Edmunds Oxjam Folk Weekend 26th -27th October 2013 Phil gave a ringing endorsement to our headline acts, telling the assembled company that they must go and see his good friends Doug Hudson and Ian Cutler and Wendy Arrowsmith and support such a worthwhile cause as well. Now Oxjam comes officially recommended by Phil, you'd best go get your tickets then!

Link above.

We'll see you a week on Saturday.

This is certainly a very worthwhile event to support if you are in the area of Bury St. Edmunds (26th-27th October). Good to see that there is a round the room session this year on Saturday and of course many fine artists throughout the weekend.
Folk events are first and foremost about enjoying the music but happily this includes gathering together to achieve that end. BStEds Oxjam is also about catching up with old folkie friends (possibly over a beer)and very often making new ones.
Organisers put so much into these events and I'm optimistic that their considerable efforts will be repaid by another good crowd soon to be enjoying the music this year.

Thanks for those kind words Speedwell, hope we're going to see you there.

And just in case anyone is wondering, you'll definitely be able to catch up over a beer. There's a real ale bar, with beer from Bury's finest alehouse, The Dove :)

Do come along, tickets available here: http://www.wegottickets.com/festivals/f/6288

(And just in case anyone is wondering, WeGotTickets are the official Oxjam partners, and donate a percentage of the online booking fee to Oxfam)

Moses and The Ref - will you be looking in at the singaround? It clashes with your set but you could make it. Just a thought.

The concerts look fabulous! We're probably only going to be able to make the Singaround (hope Moses & the Ref will be able to pop in), but will see on the day. Good luck with all the organising!

Quick update from Oxjam HQ, preparations going well, online ticket sales better this year than previous years:)Tickets are available on the door though.

Had to go and see Roger at The Dove to sort out the beer last night (It's a dirty job, but someone had to do it)

All systems go!

Thanks for the kind comments, looking forward to seeing you there

John

Managed to stay for most of Saturday before braving the M25 and we thoroughly enjoyed to Oxjam experience. Really well organised with some fantastic talent, both in the concerts and in the Singaround too.

Huge thanks to all the Organisers and volunteers for making so much effort to create a fabulous weekend raising money for such a worthy cause. Well done you lot!!

We'll definitely try to get along next year and we're looking forward to it already!

What a wonderful weekend! Well done to John, Jill, and all involved. Great music in a lovely setting. Hope Oxfam came out really well.

We did wonder if some people saw the price and thought that it couldn't be very good because it was so cheap, but how wrong they were and what a time they missed!

One very small point: It was very unclear to us what food would be available when. We did enjoy a lovely burger on Saturday, but the meal options inside were lost on us. Maybe next time some large signs detailing what will be for sale when, or more info in the program?

Definitely be looking to come again next year.

So, It's all done and dusted, and I'm pleased to be able to tell everyone that there will be a donation of £2051.98 heading to Oxfam, so a brilliant result.

Thank you to all who came, and gave generously, all who performed, helped on stage and with the sound, danced, and helped in any way however small. Couldn't do it without you :)

Thanks also for the kind comments and useful feedback above, much appreciated.

Lots of good feedback about the singaround, so that's a definite for next year.

Thanks to all

John

PS: Hils, lovely to see you, got your email, I'll drop you a reply later :)

Just fantastic all round - well doe John & Gill.

We had a ball - loved playing our sets, I loved playing with the Bounties and thoroughly enjoyed loads of other people's music and dancing.

Caught up with old friends, made some new one's as well.

I agree with the ticket price comment - it's always a dilemma but just to share our experience. We doubled the price of our village hall concerts from £5 to £10 ........ and doubled the audience. It's a funny thing is perceived quality!

Paul
