Good! It's a fine piece of writing.

Wayhay looking good.
I read it and liked it but almost didn't believe when I turned the page and saw my initials at the end. (A JJJ)
I hope I wrote it, but I like it anyway so I will add it to my repertoire as temporarily anon !

Andy

I've never seen it before, Miskin. I like it. I think you wrote it, because it's too intelligent and coherant to be lyrics for rock music.

I googled 'the moon was soft and low' and didn't find it.

Your mysterious 'A JJJ' was probably a note for an additional verse:

A jolly joint is jiving
behind us on the quay.*
The ammo is arriving
and some of it's for me...

* where I live, that's pronounced 'kee'.

Just kidding!

I'm sorting through loads of half finished poems and songs and came across this. I think I wrote it some years ago but my memory is not what it was. Does anybody recognise it?
*************

How can I start to tell her

A ship waits in the harbour,
The moon is soft and low:
My love she sits beside me,
Little does she know
That in a while I'm leaving,
My destiny untold.
And soon she may be grieving,
With our love as yet unknown.

How can I start to tell her,
The things she needs to know.

An Irish band is playing,
A sad old tune I know.
I wish that I was staying,
It breaks my heart to go.
And when again I'll see her,
Well God alone can say,
And I would gladly be him,
If I could find a way.

How can I start to tell her,
The things I need to say.

Will my darling miss me,
And say a prayer for me?
Then when the war is over,
The day they set me free,
At last I'll be returning,
Will she be there just for me?

Then I can start to tell her,
Just what she means to me.

A JJJ (????????)
