Subject: Horo Gheallaidh ceilidh sessions From: Uncle Tone Date: 09 Oct 13 - 04:59 PM Discovered this lurking on the BBC iPlayer site, available until 26th Jan 2014. A real treasure. I wish the Beeb would network much more of their Alba music output, especially from the Celtic Connections Festivals. Quote: This week, Rant, Simon Thoumire and Ian Carr, Maggie Macinnes, John Smith, Mairi Morrison and Alasdair Roberts and Rona Wilkie with Marit Falt are among the guests. This is a unique opportunity to watch world-class artists. Unquote I'll say! Makes a refreshing change from The Transatlantic Sessions, even if there is a hell of a lot of coloured water sitting around, and nobody behind the 'bar'. Horo_Gheallaidh_Sreath_7_Episode_4/ Tone |
Subject: RE: Horo Gheallaidh ceilidh sessions From: maeve Date: 09 Oct 13 - 05:13 PM Unfortunately it is blocked to folks in the USA. I don't suppose it's also on BBC Radio? |
Subject: RE: Horo Gheallaidh ceilidh sessions From: Uncle Tone Date: 09 Oct 13 - 06:28 PM Unfortunately not, it seems, Maeve, but I have found this on YouTube: Horo Gheallaidh, Sreath 1, Celtic Connections Tone |

That YouTube link is to one of the programmes in the first series, where they had that poor lass who was introducing the acts whilst pretending to pour a drink, or wipe a table, or otherwise maintain the clunky conceit that she was the barstaff in this pub that all these fabulous musicians just happen to have tipped up into. Thankfully they ditched that presentation idea after the first series. The music is indeed fabulous though, quite a few of the continental European acts booked for Celtic Connections tend to turn up on this programme alongside some really good (and some bloody awful, but your 'bloody awful' is probably my 'really good' and vice versa) 'Celtic' acts. Well worth favouriting on the iPlayer. Haven't watched this week's yet, but pleased to hear Simon Thoumire's on again (and BTW his bi-monthly FootStompin.com podacst, the 'Ayepod', is also well worth a regular listen). |

Subject: RE: Horo Gheallaidh ceilidh sessions From: Uncle Tone Date: 10 Oct 13 - 08:22 AM Somebody here mentioned that it is possible to by-pass the BBC's block to the US. I don't know how it's done, but I'm sure somebody will tell us. Tone |
