Subject: Spanish Civil War songs in People's Songs (USA)

Does anyone have access to the publications of The People's Songs from the 1940's until 1950? If so would you please look in them and see whether there were songs from the Spanish Civil War reprinted there, and give a reference for where they appear?
I have been reading Robbie Lieberman's greatly illuminating book My Song Is My Weapon, People's Songs, American Communism, and the Politics of Culture, 1930-50. She often mentions the singing of Spanish Civil War songs in connection with People's Songs and those connected with it. I am trying to track down how Spanish Civil War songs entered the repertoire of folk singers in the English speaking world and this seems a promising lead. One song which Lieberman specifically mentions is Viva La Quince Brigada and if you come across this song will you see whether the song has a chorus which includes the words Ay Manuela! rather than the alternative Ay Carmela! and whether anyone is given credit for having written the song's lyrics.
I live in England where access to these publications is not easy and so I will be very grateful if someone is able to help me with this.

Spanish Civil War songs in the People's Songs publications (U.S.A),1940-1950

Thank you GUEST for posting that Youtube video of Pete Seeger singing the Ay Manuela version of the Viva La Quinthe Brigada song. If someone is able to check out the People's Songs publications then it would be very helpful to have proof that there was a printed version of the song in this form dating from the 1940's.

There is a FOLK SONG INDEX at Oberlin College - indexing SING OUT
magazine. I do not know if it includes PEOPLE'S SONGS BULLETIN.
http://www.singout.org/sorce-fsi-search.html
Obviously, the 40's folk community learned these songs through
the Almanacs/Seeger et.al. concerts, rallys, political meetings,
and through the recordings issued by ASCH and KEYNOTE - see the
Folkways albums SONGS OF THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR. Notes are available
in PDF files (link given for each album)
http://www.folkways.si.edu/search/spanish-civil-war

My copies of Peoples Songs Bulletin are not accessible at the moment,
perhaps others on the list have them at hand ?????

Best wishes, Thomas.

Anybody have issues of the People's Songs Bulletin or newsletter?

I have three songbooks published from the songs published by People's Songs: I don't think there were other songbooks. I don't think these three books encompass all the songs published in the quarterly Bulletin from 1946 through 1949. In the Reprints book, Irwin Silber says there were 319 songs printed in the Bulletin over its history.

Sing Out! (click) is in the process of digitizing the entire three-year run of The People's Songs Bulletin, but the project isn't complete.

I'm indexing what I can in this thread (click).
