I'm glad others also find Mudcat slow. I thought it might be me. However, the site is slow on mobile (android) and 'puter so there must a hold up somewhere. John in Kansas seems to have a handle on it......

That last post took 80 seconds to enter. But at least it eventually got posted.
Re-opening the thread took 20 seconds.

Slow responses.
Stalls sometimes when I hit submit, or it seems to take forever to enter. Sometimes the post eventually appears, other times it must be submitted.

Difficulty in finding recent threads.

Note the absence of an "s" on "thread" which might explain why it didn't appear in a refresh if you "remembered" it as "threads."

I've been experiencing very slow loading at mudcat for some time now, often with apparent "complete stalls" that never open anything, or "partial responses" that load part of the front page and then just stop.

In most cases, just closing the browser and reopening at mudcat often gets a completed connection. (It sometimes seems like the site I'm coming from is more at fault than mudcat, so I usually just quit everything and start over when it happens.)

The simplest guess is that the buffer that lines people up for replies is being overloaded. Slow responses would increase the likelihood that "too many requests" might accumulate ahead of you, and also the likelihood of a "clash" when your request arrives simultaneously with another (new or from the buffer) in which case one may be just "dropped."

Mudcat isn't the only place I've observed somewhat similar slow responses, so there may be internet difficulties that indicate another explanation.

I've also seen some "clashes" when I hit the Submit button, with someone else's (almost simultaneous) post to the same thread making it, and mine disappearing. Usually a "Back," will recover my composition so that a resubmit is all that's needed.

My experience indicates there are few "missing threads," but lots of "lost threads" if you can't remember an exact fragment of the thread title to enter in the Refresh box. Putting the shortest possible fragment of a title that's all correct in the Refresh box usually works, but even a single character that isn't in the title will exclude the one you want from the result.

IFF you're logged in, you can use the "Trace" function to keep track of threads you might want to add something to after they've dropped off, but it gets to be a good idea to occasionaly clean out your record of traced threads so it doesn't get harder to find stuff there than on the front page.

On drop down menu, click Old Adv. Forum Search, then put your search item in the box & hey presto!

Thanks Keith. I just went away and came back later. But was reminded of that thread and wondered if that's what the OP was on about.
Mr H, your Search works differently from mine - neither using Filter (set at 6 months) or knowledge search can I get anything except this thread!
Not that I care, just find it odd.

Sometimes the forum page does not fully open.
You just get the top line.
Try clicking the Mudcat logo.
That does not always work so then click on messages, go to bottom of that page and click on forum home.

A little while ago someone started a thread asking
"Where have the threads gone"
Now that thread seems to have disappeared, or I've got it's name wrong - I can't find it, not nohow.

We assumed that he meant there were few threads and answered that they only stayed for 1 day (default setting) and since Mudcat had been down most of that time there wouldn't be many. (The other assumption was that he was comparing the number of threads now with the much larger number in days when Facebook was less popular.

But it happened to me yesterday. I opened Mudcat and just got a heading - no threads AT ALL. And I'm sure it hadn't been down for 24 hours and only just come back on (I browse here every day). Wierd.
