Thanks, everyone! Very interesting and helpful information, esp. the turtleservices mp3, since this provides the melody. Regarding the Carter Family's singing of the song, I had read about this somewhere years ago and copied down the lyrics -- doing a quick google search now, I found this website, so that's where I may have first read it: http://www.stevenmenke.com/carter%20family%20no4%20.htm

This the version we sang in the 1930s and I have no idea who wrote it and it was named after the Newspaper funnies Andy Gump and the characters in the script

Howdy doo Andy Gump how do you do
Howdy doo Andy Gump how are you
How is Chester how is MIN
How's the whiskers on your chin
Growing out or growing in
Howdy doo Andy Gump howdy doo

"How Do You Do?"
1924, new lyrics 1929
(Sung by Felix and guest star David Steinberg. Although Felix refers to the song as being by "The Happiness Boys" - referring to the 1924 version - what they sang in this episode was the 1929 version.)

1924 version:

How do you do, everybody, how do you do?
How are you, everybody, how are you?

We are here we must confess just to bring you happiness.
Hope we please you more or less

How do you doodle-doodle-doodle-doodle do?

1929 version:

How do you do, everybody, how do you do?
How are you everybody, how are you?
We're Billy Jones and Ernie Hare
We're the interwoven pair

How do you doodle-doodle-doodle-doodle do?

Episodes:
033 "The Odd Couple Meet their Host"

It's not what you want, but anything I can do to confuse the issue . . .

The CARTER FAMILY theme is KEEP ON THE SUNNY SIDE.

A radio and recording duo from the 1920's, The Happiness Boys (Billy
Jones and Ernest Hare) sang the song given above.

Would not be surprising if the Carters also recorded that song.
Which broadcasts did you find it on?? (are they reissues, or
transcription disc's ???)

Thomas.

Hi, does anyone have the melody (or a recording) for the Carter Family's "Howdy Do," which they used to sing at the beginning of their radio broadcasts? These are the lyrics:

Howdy do, everybody, howdy do.
Howdy do, everybody, how are you?
We are here, we must confess,
Just to bring you happiness.
We hope to please you more or less,
Howdy do.

Thanks!

Eric
