Subject: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 16 Oct 13 - 07:21 AM I'm looking for the air to a C19 ballad 'Paddy Casey' which tells me it's called 'Down Among the Fields Haymaking'. I've checked the Full English, ITMA and British Library catalogues without success, although I might have missed something. Can anybody help? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: maeve Date: 16 Oct 13 - 08:18 AM Is this the song? I wonder if you have searched for a simplified title for the air? In the link above the tune is called "Haymaking"- though it may not by the same "Paddy Casey" song to which you refer. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 16 Oct 13 - 01:13 PM I'm quoting from the ballad source I've printed out. There may be other names I'm unaware of. So many C19 and early ballads 'assume' the reader is familiar with tunes to which the words ascribe. One century later, and Muggins here is left scratching his head!! |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 19 Oct 13 - 08:40 AM Sorry, if I appear ungrateful. I did enquire after the tune - not the words. I DO have this tract on my file. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: GUEST,George Frampton Date: 20 Oct 13 - 08:37 AM Okay. How does it go? Have you (or anyone) got the music for it? |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Down Among the Fields Haymaking From: maeve Date: 20 Oct 13 - 09:12 AM We've been searching for the tune, George. So far we haven't found it other than the possible variations in the name...one of which may eventually draw someone who knows/can post the tune. Sometimes these searches take a wee while. I suppose you've inquired at the Cecil Sharp House? http://www.cecilsharphouse.org/csh-contact-and-visit-us |
