TAISCE: A Concert for the Irish Traditional Music Archive

On Sunday 10 November 2013, at 8.00 pm in the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, the Irish Traditional Music Archive will hold its first-ever concert.

This event comes at the end of a year of archival projects, events and publications which has marked the 25th anniversary of the Archive's foundation in 1987, and it will be a public acknowledgement of the centrality of live performance to all the Archive's activities.
A stellar line-up of leading traditional performers, all of whom have donated their services, will represent different aspects of the contemporary music, song and dance tradition. Appearing will be

Liam O'Flynn, uilleann pipes, Paddy Glackin, fiddle, Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, piano & Neil Martin, cello
Matt Molloy, flute & Dónal Lunny, bouzouki
Brooks Academy Set Dancers with Paudie O'Connor, accordion
Sibéal Davitt, stepdancer
Siobhán Armstrong, early Irish harp & Áine Ní Dhroighneáin, singing in Irish
Len Graham, singing in English
Mick O'Brien, uilleann pipes, Emer Mayock, flute & Aoife Ní Bhriain, fiddle
Nicholas Carolan will be MC

The Irish Traditional Music Archive is a national public archive and resource centre for the traditional music of Ireland. In its premises at 73 Merrion Square, Dublin 2, it holds the largest collection in existence of the materials of the music – some 100,000 items including sound recordings, books, magazines, sheet music, ballad sheets, photographs, videos, posters, programmes, interactive music scores, etc. It also holds the largest collection of information on the music, comprising some 900,000 content items of information held on computer. The collections are freely available daily to the general public for listening, viewing and study. ITMA is also a publisher of books and audiovisual materials, and it increasing makes online digitised materials and information freely available worldwide through its Online Catalogue and Digital Library at www.itma.ie. It engages in partnerships with many other bodies, particularly with the national broadcasters RTÉ and TG4. ITMA is funded by An Chomhairle Ealaíon / The Arts Council, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and its support group Friends of the Archive, and by hundreds of private donors of material and information.
