I pleased and proud to announce the re-release of Ruth Crawford Seeger's "American Folk Songs for Christmas" One of the truly classic collections, with illustrations by Barbara Cooney. Over half a hundred Christmas songs, with lyrics, piano arrangements and chords.
Priced at $12.95 (softcover only), it's a great stocking stuffer as well as a worthy addition to your music library.

That's great news, Dick. Folks may wonder about the matching cd- will that also be available?

There were two CDs released with that title--one by Rounder featuring Mike and Peggy Seeger along with other members of the Seeger clan, and one by Folkways, by Peggy and Penny Seeger. The Rounder one is available only as a download (from Amazon), the Folkways one can be obtained from Smithsonian Folkways, or, for a couple of bucks less, from CAMSCO.

There's also a new cd of this collection out from Smithsonian Folkways: The Sounding Joy: Christmas Songs In and Out of the Ruth Crawford Seeger Songbook, Elizabeth Mitchell (SFW45074)

The Sounding Joy is a spirited collection of folk carols drawn from Ruth Crawford Seeger's 1953 songbook American Folk Songs for Christmas. Featuring Elizabeth Mitchell and a luminary list of her musical family, friends, and neighbors, this album celebrates the spirit of community and homespun traditions that existed in times before the commercialization of Christmas. Natalie Merchant, Aoife O'Donovan, Amy Helm, John Sebastian, Dan Zanes, Happy Traum, and many others including special guest Peggy Seeger all add their voices to pay tribute to a collection revered in the canon of American Music. 70 minutes, 32-page booklet with photos.
