Booked her many years ago when she was Linda Peters and sang with Paul McNeil, 1968ish.

A Guardian read for later...

Bonnie's post is over ten years old, Chris!

Steve (plastic scouser in mourning after last night...)

Just read the Guardian interview. Wish it had been a lot longer. I also wish she's write a book. I read her ex's book a couple of years ago. That's an afternoon of my life I'll never get back.

(Hey, Bonnie! Nice to see you still active on the Mudcat!)

New interview in The Guardian

Her struggles with spasmodic dysphonia has led her to write an album for a bevy of other stars to sing. She talks about trauma, ageing and stealing an audience member’s car

Thanks for that Bonnie! Really illuminating interview, as you say. Apart from the singing, which I've always loved, I like Linda as a person cos she's totally un-diva-ish.

I'm off to order the album (cripes, that's about 6 this month - who says the CD's dead?)

There's a terrific interview with Linda Thompson on Salon.com which is well worth a read. In it she discusses her new, much folkier, record - though this piece is far more than just a PR-puff. Some of the other musicians on it include the Carthys (Martin on guitar, Eliza on harmony) and, on the opening track, the redoubtable Richard; plus assorted members of the family.

Linda talks a lot about the music itself, coping with dysphonia and its effects, the value of family, friendships with the McGarrigle/Wainwright clan, Emmylou, and more besides. What a brilliant, down-to-earth lady she is.

Full marks to Rick Moody too, for such intelligent and insight-producing questions. (Thompson herself actually compliments him on this.) Her new album is definitely on my to-buy list.
